Pacific Rim Sequel: This March Holy Shit it Happened
Pacific Rim is an upcoming 2013 American science fiction film directed by Guillermo del Toro and written by del Toro and Travis Beacham. The film is set in the near future where soldiers pilot giant mecha into battle against invading giant monsters who have risen from a portal beneath the ocean.
This is a movie I really hope families and kids watch. I really hope it. My main goal is if you have a dad and an 11-year-old or 13-year-old kid watching the movie together, the dad can identify the nostalgia feel, but the kid goes, Oh my God, that's the biggest monster I've ever seen! So, it was about scale and an unmovable, advancing force of nature - the kaiju - and the humans holding up with all of these things: intelligence, bravery, these things standing up against this blind push.
Asked what he’s most excited about in the pic’s vfx, del Toro first mentions neither robots nor monsters but something subtler: water. Since the creatures emerge from the Pacific, much of the action is in the ocean or in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbor.
“The water dynamics in this movie are technically beautiful, but also artistically incredibly expressive,” he says. “We agreed on making the water become almost another character. We would time the water very precisely. I’d say ‘Get out of the wave (on this frame).’ ”
Sometimes the helmer would use classic art, such as Hokusai’s engraving the Great Wave as a common point of reference. “I would say ‘Give me a Hokusai wave,’ ” says del Toro. “I think (the vfx team) did a tremendous job; we use the waves and weather in the movie very operatically.”
It goes back to the line ‘We’re canceling the apocalypse,’ which sounds like a stereotypically badass line, but I wasn’t trying to write a macho line. I was thinking about everyone talking about the 2012 predictions and the financial crisis and all that stuff, and I think we as a culture have an almost fetishistic resignation to the end times. It’s almost like we’re looking forward to saying ‘I told you so.’ I always found that unappealing, and I wanted this movie to be about no, we say when it’s over. We’re people. We can change the world. We get to say when we’re done. That’s what I wanted the movie to be about - not any one country or one flag, just all people coming together. Coming together and saying, ‘We’re going to do something about this. And if it’s crazy? To hell with it, we’ve accomplished crazy things before.’
I'm using my phone as a modem until the actual techs come in to install the net at my new apt tomorrow morning, so I think I should avoid that, but I'll see what I can do later in the day/week.
The SE++ thread had a good run of awesome names, I'm sure there'll be some solid winners here too.
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!

Awesome'd the OP for the thread title alone.
I was planning on letting this pass me by, but the 80+% on Rotten Tomatoes, along with some of the reviews by RT's "Top Critics" leads me to believe that this won't be a flaming hunk of trash like Man of Steel and Iron Man 3 were.
Someone clearly hasn't been paying attention to the naming convention. Hrmmmmmm. :P

I had a chuckle to myself when I came up with "Friendzone Omega" this afternoon. Somebody in the SE++ thread came up with Misandry from the country of Isreal and that was pretty good too.

As I'm in final countdown mode, I've begun watching the available Godzilla movies on Netflix. Last night was Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster (my favorite of the Godzilla characters). Tonight will be: Rhodan.
Also, pay attention to the Pan/Rotate button on the movie poster screen.....I didnt spot it immediately. Also, thank you for ruining my productivity for the day, thread.

It is your patriotic duty to buy five tickets for this movie. Kanye Kojima said so.
I grew up watching Choushinsei Flashman and Ultraman as a kid and my mom bribed me on getting my vaccine shots with a full set of King Lion when I was 3 years old. If this movie was targeted to a single person on this entire planet, I'd be the guy at the front of the line.

release the kraken!
Everyone can help with this!
Make your own giant robot movie poster!
Example:
Just something to keep an eye out for.
i am trying to keep my expectations very low for Pacific Rim. I been done wrong so many times.
I am a sucker for Culture ship names.
Edit: Also the fact that every single piece you build your robot with actually details the difference between parts as you build it is wonderful.
Edit 2: This concerns Geth.
Edit 3: Wait no now he thinks it's awesome.
Edit 4: MAKE UP YOUR MIND.
When I wake up I expect a rag tag but lovable multinational team of oddly named robots.
