The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
it looks preeettttty neat and people like Rian Johnson (of Looper fame) have been talking it up
I haven't read in depth yet but I'll be doing that today
but I also still hang out at
for their TV reviews and their excellent newswire and even sometimes their book reviews
occasionally I go to Badass Digest for Film Crit Hulk's stuff
and of course, you guys keep me up to date on lots of stuff too
so where do you get your entertainment and pop culture news from? you got opinions about who's good and who's bad? isn't Devin Faraci just the woooorrrsssttt
I love the grantland entertainment section because they cover lots of stuff I love. Their tv coverage is aces, from GoT to new show write-ups (the bridge write up today has me super-pumped for that show, they cover the MTV challenge, which I love, and their music stuff is some excellent, lengthy reads, even though I may disagree at times. Also I like reading Wesley Morris's movie takes
I like Todd VanDerWerff most of the time. He gets fucking weird sometimes in his reviews, though. Really, their TV coverage is mostly why I stick around, and a decent chunk of their newswire coverage.
Oh, and their Random Roles feature can be pretty excellent as well, especially when they get an actor that doesn't really give a shit about keeping up appearances. They had one with James Caan a few weeks back where there's a moment where you're pretty sure James Caan about ripped the interviewer's throat out.
Oh right, and the Dissolve seems like it's going to solve the main problem I had with the AV Club's film coverage, in that their reviews were so goddamned short that you couldn't glean much of what they thought at all because there just wasn't room. I'm not super pleased that their comment section seems to have made the jump from the AV Club, though. Man.
I feel like I would like Film Crit Hulk more if it wasn't written that way
I get that it's a thing and the guy does make good points
but goddamn that is an obnoxious way to make your points
Weirdly, I always thought Film Crit Hulk was a woman. But yeah, it's annoying. You can put it into a translator online and email it to yourself though.

I like a surprising amount of the gimmick commenters on the AV Club. Some of which have moved over to The Dissolve:

there's a link right up there!

but todd vanderwerff is just awful, try reading any of his community reviews without wanting to die
I've said it before but I love Sean O'Neal
I think the av club disagrees with me often enough that I no longer read them
I like Believer Magazine for reviews because I'm a goddamn elitist I guess??
"Sandra has a good solid anti-murderer vibe. My skin felt very secure and sufficiently attached to my body when I met her. Also my organs." HAIL SATAN
It's not even that, it's just the whole "I am pretending to be the hulk in something that is meant to be taken seriously"
it just seems so pointless to me
I mean I guess it got the dude noticed, so that's cool, but damn
Looking forward to seeing how The Dissolve goes, because right now for reviews all I really have is McWeeney and Sepinwall over at Hitfix.
