[How To] Linksys E1200 Auto-Reset

SynthesisSynthesis Honda Today!Registered User regular
I've got a Linksys E1200--pretty cheap router, but when works, it does its chop fine. Problem is, it doesn't always: my ISP requires I restart my router between once a week to once a day. I've considered getting a new one, but I'm strapped for cash and I actually really like the Cisco software (call me crazy).

Hard restarting my router works, but it's kind of a chore (pulling the plug out, waiting, putting it back in). Is there any way to trigger my router to restart on a daily basis automatically?

The absolute easiest way to do this is to install a physical timer. People use these all the time for things like Christmas lights and other basic automation tasks. Set the timer to basically be on 23.5 hours of the day, and power off for 30 mins when you're least likely to need network access (like at 4:30am).

    Hope that helps.

I ended up doing that back in August, and yes, it is easy.

The issue is that, with my timer, it's a 30 minute gap before it restarts. I may consider flashing the firmware for a custom suite that allows you to set a number of period restarts.
