LCD Monitor Scratch

Just bought a monitor off ebay to match my first and lo and behold:

It has this small, but prominent ~.75 cm scratch. It appears white with the screen powered off and it's noticeable to touch. So, pretty deep I imagine.

Rather than going through the hassle of sending it back, I'm going to be taking this opportunity to try out all the scratch-repair bullshit I can find. Some guy on youtube suggested I rub the scratch with cardboard for a while, and I also remember hearing that toothpaste is supposed to have some effect. Here's our progress so far:

When the light hits it just so, it looks like I removed some kind of anti-glare coating ...or just cleaned that one spot?

Next up: I'll be rubbing some petroleum jelly into it and observing the effect, following that, I've just ordered this polishing kit.

What are all y'all's favorite methods of scratch removal? Or just shit that you've heard works - let's put these to the test and watch what happens together.

Novus Plastic polish, comes in different grades for the different levels of scratches. I would use #2 Fine Polish and #1 Clean & Shine on yours.

Although I use mine on pinball machines and not on monitors. The uses page lists acrylic aquariums, airplane windows and some other similar deals.

*edit* Hah, after following your link I see you are onto the Novus product already.

Woah! Ok first test was petroleum jelly and that actually worked a lot better than I expected it to!
First I spread some around the scratch:

Then I wiped it off with a microfiber cloth. The scratch darkened substantially:

When the monitor is turned on, I have to look much more closely to be able to find it:

Pretty pleased with this result! If I wasn't so willing to write off this monitor as a loss and curious about how the polish performs, I would leave it at this. But, I am! The goal here will be the complete elimination of this scratch.
