I got this phone a while back but I've been trying recently to get it working as an MP3 player. PRoblem is when I plug it into my PC via USB it detects my phone as a camera rather than the phone it is. I can't take pictures/video's off of it or put music on or off of it at all. Anyone know why this is? Google isn't helping, it just keeps coming up with Galaxy SIII stuff that has nothing to do with my problem.

Are you just trying to get songs onto the device? There's probably a samsung driver you can download so that you can view the entire file structure of the phone's storage. Otherwise, you could try something like this to just wirelessly send files over to your device:
When I plug in my S4, my XP computer recognizes the S4 as a camera. I made it so the prompt box comes up and I can select view files and folders, and now I can load my songs. Maybe something along those lines will help?

When i try to view the phone inside it shows no files it's just an empty folder. I'll try that Kies thing maybe?
Kies doesn't seem to work. It just sits at "connecting device" forever and never does anything. Which is weird because on samsungs site it says it is compatible, but when connected it very much doesn't work.
I don't actually use the software, I just use the drivers that get installed for my phone... So if I load up the software then plug in my phone, then it shows up under "My Computer"

Drivers that get installed for your phone? Kies installed on my PC. What step am I missing here.
Before I even hooked up my phone to my computer I installed Kies which installed the Samsung driver. I then turn on Kies then plug the phone in, but completely ignore the software at that point.

see my phone didnt install anything into itself with kies.
And I wasn't clear again. New baby will do that to you.
You may have to uninstall the driver that is on your computer for your phone (Device Manager, plug in your phone... find it, and right click-> uninstall). Then reinstall Kies. When Kies is installed then start the software up (on your desktop/laptop) then plug your phone into the computer. It should see that it is plugged in and then you can go to My Computer then (hopefully) see it as a device there.
This is for the SIII though so I'm not sure if it'll work.
