At this point Netflix is pretty self-explanatory. If you don't know what it is, I simply can't help you. No one can.
For as little as 8 bucks a month (American) you can stream movies and TV shows from your computer, home media devices, videogames, tablets, smartphones, pretty much anything that has an internet connection. You want the physical discs, you pay a little more, they come in the mail, you enjoy them, ship them back, get new ones, etc.
The company is such a heavyweight they have even ventured into original programming:
They have even introduced the use of profiles to help keep your tastes and preferences from being messed up by your SO or roommate, easing that confusing feeling of seeing all these suggestions for Rob Schneider or Rachel McAdams films pop up:

But you can have so much stuff at your beck and call these days, with it's ever updating roster of choices, that it can be paralyzing. That's what this thread is for!
With the help of websites like
Netflix's own blog (which includes things like ISP speed indexes)
Instant Watcher and your fellow forumers, you can see what new releases Netflix has that go beyond their suggested viewing choices, since we are all special snowflakes that have the algorithm machine suggesting different things. But you can't trust the machine! Despite giving Weeds 1 star it insists on telling me that Orange Is The New Black is 4.5 stars, that's the kind of shenanigans you won't expect from your fellow man.
Sadly, Netflix no longer provides the expiration time for certain films and shows like they did in the past, so if you see something you like, jump on it as soon as you can.
What This Thread Is:
This thread is for asking for suggestions on what new movies or shows to watch, what films or programs you enjoyed or didn't that are currently available on Netflix (mainly tailored on the streaming end since they seem to have physical copies of everything), their original shows, the varying lists of available titles in each country or region of the globe, and so forth.
For instance, you might have seen one of their new original shows like Hemlock Grove, or the excellent show Saxondale but didn't know where to put your praise and recommendation for others or other shows similar to this work of art? This would be the place. Want to let everyone know the so-bad-it's-good film The Miami Connection is now on instant streaming, or the 80's classic The Breakfast Club? This is where you do the dew. Need some advice on whether you should continue watching a show that's available, come at me bro.
Conversely, you might have just finished watching that terrible show Weeds which was recently added to Netflix and just wanted to say outside of Kevin Nealon it's crap and that you can't believe it was recommended to you with 4 stars, here's the place.
Be respectful of spoilers, particularly ongoing or recently finished shows. Older, more well know shows, like Saved By The Bell (which is available!), you can say what you want, like how the episodes are all out of order and they have the Tori episodes listed as their own season
after the graduation episode which makes no sense am I right? Wait....what?
What This Thread Isn't:
This is not the place for ongoing talks about movies, that is what the
Movie Thread is for. This is also not the place to talk about shows that have developed such a strong presence on this forum that they have their own threads such as Mad Men or Breaking Bad or Archer, all of which are available on the service. Think of this thread like the
Trailers Thread: It's similar but still separate from the Movie Thread. If talk about certain Netflix original shows seems to overtake the thread, that might be a sign that it could branch out on its own and we will push the bird from the nest.
So stream, clog the tubes with something besides porn, slack off from work, watch a TV show while you attempt to drive home in traffic on a rainy day.

Orange is the New Black is the new awesome.
Of course, I just signed up for Crunchyroll, too, because... that's a lot of anime... and I've pretty much seen all of the good anime on Netflix.
Watched the Saints and Soldiers: Airborne Creed
Just don't do it. It's not even a bad movie you can have fun watching....it's just god awefull.
I can't say what will happen with her in later seasons because... well, duh. Only one season.
House of Cards was quite good, but it got a bit too unpleasant near the end. Hemlock Grove was actually not a bad show... it's just unrelentingly bleak, and one of the main characters makes no sense unless you assume that he is autistic or something.
Like really, I had to spend 5 minutes telling it no, I don't want to start watching something it picked without knowing what it is. I told it "I don't trust you", then it picked one anyway, then I said no "I am a control freak"(fuck it for that one BTW) THEN it asked again anyway. Then It lets out a deep sigh, and begrudgingly allows me to tell it what i'm interested in watching. What the hell?
All other cartoons pale in the awesome glow that is Invader Zim and Ruby Gloom (for actual children's cartoons that is).

does that term really apply to nancy botwin?
and the gengars who are guiding me" -- W.S. Merwin
It always has the opposite effect on me. Instead of considering upping my subscription, everytime it happens I always consider switching to a different service like amazon, but then I look through my watch list and remember why that wont be happening...
I can understand showing the broadcast versions free on your site or whatever, but there needs to be better benefits to a paid membership other than getting new episodes right away.
Ah well. Back to Netflix.
She was this uber in control sexpot who had men falling in line just to be around her, and any negative repercussions of her actions weren't shown.
She was fine in seasons 1-3 because you had her freak out with things like getting shot at for the first time or trying to find that weed for U-Turn, then her plot armor gets ramped up a whole lot in later seasons.
Prime's biggest failing is the interface... whether you're watching on the PC or on any device with Amazon Prime streaming, the interface is so bad it's kind of offensive.

The thing is that you don't have to like her. They present her as a flaky, pretentious wasp and she kind of comes off that way irl (it's based on a real couple.) I think it's really by design that some people will closely relate to parts of her and others will deislike her (and they probably know the people who relate to her irl, which may be why they dislike her.) Anyways, yes, I think you should continue. She pushes the show's story forward but it's to Jenji Kohan's credit that you can really just tune in for the side characters/stories. You can also watch the show to take sides against her.
No, she's not like Nancy Botwin yet and I hope it doesn't get there. Weeds turned into real life cartoon after the first few seasons. Orange, while having its cheesy moments (mainly with the guard) is a lot more toned down than Weeds ever was, plus the side characters are much better developed (and they're simply all-around better actors.)
Well.
At least you aren't carving out one specific time every week to do the same thing for six years?

I hate quite a few elements of Netflix's designs. It takes forever to load the pictures on my tablets (Transformer Prime and even in the Win8 app on my laptop) and the scrolling on the desktop browser is just stupid. I do find the desktop browser with Netflix more manageable than any other form, including Amazon Prime in browser, but the slow scrolling should really just not be there. At least once you click on genres you get an updating list, but tbh I'd just prefer pages. Also its search is dumb (ie doesn't handle typos, which sucks on the tablet side.)
Sometimes I would just like a text list. No movie covers, just title, top actors, director, description, year.
It's still lightyears ahead of Comcast's On-Demand system, but that's like saying Applebee's pasta is better than Chef Boyardee. Ultimately, a company in their type of service should have multiple types of interfaces for multiple types of customers, even if it's buried in a menu. It amazes me that Amazon still doesn't offer a list view alternative.
Good news, all the episodes are available on Netflix.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a tv show I can half watch while I play video games? Ive watched Lost (holy fuck that ending was dumb, and completely unnecessary), Alphas, and am currently watching MacGyver (well, Ive watched the first episode, but Im not super sure Im into it). It needs to be something I can enjoy by only half paying attention to, so stuff like Arrested Development, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The West Wing, etc are out.
EDIT: I was going to watch Quantum Leap, but its missing episodes and it probably end up in the same category as MacGyver). Can I half watch Fringe and not miss much? What about Caprica?
Family Ties
Psych
Rules of Engagement (Despite being a Friends/Seinfeld mashup this is actually a pretty good show, especially from season 3 on, and is like a utility player in baseball. Or maybe it's just because it's on plane trips all the time I find it comforting)
Dinosaurs
The A-Team (lots better than MacGyver or Miami Vice)
Totally forgot about Dinosaurs which I started but didnt finish for some reason.
Also added The A-Team since Ive never seen an episode.
I dont know if I want to ruin my memory of Saved by the Bell, and Im not sure if Rules of Engagement is for me; How I Met Your Mother is about as CBSy as I can take and even then Im pretty sure Im mostly only watching since its almost over.
Thanks!
Stargate is always a fun choice if it is back on Netflix right now. I know it is on Amazon Prime if you have that. Cheesy scifi at its best if you ask me. Fringe I have taken to half watching with my wife and I tend to miss a lot. Sometimes to my benefit as I get pissed when they screw up the basic science. Sliders is another fun one up until Season 3. Season 4 is tolerable. Season 5 is... probably a war crime honestly. Eureka is also pretty amazingly fun. It is a light hearted version of Fringe really that works well as a background show. Especially after Season 2 when they drop a lot of the drama in favor of humor.
Just checked out the trailer.
Now I want to resub to Netflix, just for this show.
Thanks, Obama !
I just noticed that this was on netflix the other day and words cannot express how happy it made me, loved that show as a kid
Just gonna leave this here:
Have you seen Misfits ?
UK show about a group of teenage youth offenders who gain (mostly useless) superpowers.
