Just received one of my many credit card offers, except this one has been opened.

I've received stuff in the mail where the envelope hasn't been sealed all the way, but this credit card ad I got today was obviously ripped open. I live in a fairly big apartment and one thought came to mind is the letter was put in the wrong mailbox. My mailbox was locked when I opened it as well, so the mailman would have had to put this already opened offer into my box in its current state. Should I be concerned about ID theft?

Do they even have your personal information in that offer? Usually when I receive a credit card offer by mail it's a generic letter.

It would be very odd for someone to steal it and open it and then bother to put it back in your mailbox instead of just stealing it and filling it out to commit fraud since you obviously would never have known that it had been mailed to you anyway. I've also gotten a lot of envelopes that are partially or totally torn open because of rough handling, maybe this is the culprit?

My name, address, and the offer details, so no..

What made me suspicious is the fact that it's ripped like someone intentionally opened it. I guess someone would need more than my name and address to activate a CC offer in my name.

Your name and address are on the outside of everything that's mailed to you, so it's not a secret

(in the same way that your checking account is in no way secret because it's printed on every check you've ever given to someone)

My guess, as someone who has lived in several large apartment complexes: someone opened it, belatedly realized it wasn't theirs, and put it back
