The white guy is an Australian called Peter Norman (deceased in 2006) who wore a civil rights button during the ceremony and the famous fist-raise to show his support
in return he was ostracised by the Australian media and Olympic authorities and was never sent to the Olympics again, despite running qualifying times for the 1972 games (the first modern Olympic games where no Australian sprinters participated)
