    Questions:

    1. Is it first come first serve to get on the bracket?

    2. What platform is Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 being held on?

    3. Can Vita owners use their Vitas as controllers for UMvC3, if it is being held on the PS3?

    Thanks!

  • BrainsBrains Console Tournament Manager Registered User regular
    1. Bracket is randomized.
    2. 360
    3. I don't strong feelings on this. Convince me that it's reasonable and doesn't give a player an advantage over one with any other controller. Community, thoughts?

  • PrivateNewbiePrivateNewbie Registered User regular
Well, they have always allowed for the use of your own peripherals in the PC tournaments. That's never been a problem.

  • ArchdukeFerdinandArchdukeFerdinand Registered User regular
Well, if it's being held on the 360, the question is moot. The Vita can't exactly connect with Microsoft hardware! As for whether or not it would provide an advantage... I distinctly doubt it, I understand most people in the fighting game community consider playing with anything other than a joystick to be much more inefficient if anything. Thanks for the response!

If it's like previous years, you can sign up at the Console Tourney area on the day of the tournament. So if a tournament is on Saturday, you cannot sign up Friday but you can sign up as soon as the expo starts on Saturday. Signups are capped so try to drop by early, at least an hour before the tournament starts.

Console Tourney is located on the 6th floor of the convention center, upper right map in this pic:

The list is fixed for this Prime, yes. Feel free to offer suggestions for the next round though.

Yup. Exactly this. Signups open at 10am, for the tournaments on that day only.

Any entry fees or prizes for the tournaments? This my first PAX so not sure if this is just for a pot/prizes or just for fun.

There are no fees and no pot.

There are medals for first place finishes only.

Cool thanks for the confirm. One last question, are the tournaments single elimination or double elim.

Most tournaments are single elim. The one exception that I can think of is FIFA13, since we'll have to handle ties. Likely will be settled with hand-to-hand combat. ;)

Aw no Super Puzzle Fighter Tourney? There's been one for the past 2 years...PAX was the last big Puzzle Fighter tourney around...

And when it comes to the tournaments with huge demand (e.g. Super Smash Bros.), the list will fill up that morning. If you're looking to be a part of the more popular tournaments, signing up will be the first thing you want to do that day.

Cannnn I suggest Halo Wars for future tournaments? :)

Any idea on how the You Don't Know Jack tournament will work? Wondering if it will be all new rounds or random ones from the standard campaign.

I hear ya blindai. I was really looking foward to this one again. I wonder why it got cut out this year. It always had a great following and filled up the room every year

Will Halo 4 be updated? they released a weapon balance patch a little while back that makes some pretty huge balance changes. If its at all possible I would request updating it, the game plays infinitely better post patch.

Also similar question about FIFA. Will the squad rosters be updated to reflect current teams/stats or will the rosters be from back when the game shipped? This ones not that big of a balance issue so it's not a big deal but it would be cool to have current rosters if possible.

When you play a local game of FIFA you can choose to do extra time and penalties so you should be covered on that front. It's more like a real soccer tourney would actually play out too.

Thanks so much for putting this together! Really appreciate all the work you folks do to put this stuff together. The console tourney lineup is awesome this year!

P.S. Every year when the schedule comes out I look through praying for a FIFA tournament but there never is one :p. Thanks for getting it in there.

I know the game list is set...and everybody has their favorite game that isn't on the list... but Puzzle Fighter has been at the last two Pax Primes, and attendance was huge the last time. Was it just not as popular as the other Puzzle games that made the cut? (or was the problem it was taking too much space)

Is there really no way to get this back as an official tournament game?

Very excited to win my 5th straight Super Smash Bros.: Brawl gold medal. Shame there's nothing for 2nd and 3rd place anymore, I feel bad for those guys working hard to get through 126 or 127 other people only to have to get blown out by me and get no prize.

I'll take a look at it again for next year, for sure.

A few questions about the NBA Jam tournament:

    1. The main schedule says it starts at 8pm on Sunday, not 9pm as listed here. Please confirm which is correct.
    2. Are the latest roster changes, from January 2013, going to be in use?
    3. There is actually a minor bug in that latest roster update. In it, *only* the team on the left can select Jason Kidd on the Dallas Mavericks, but not the player on the right. Can a ruling be made that Jason Kidd on the Mavericks can't be used by anyone?
    4. Will we only have access to standard teams/players and not any of the unlockable ones?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. The main schedule is wrong, the tourney starts at 9pm.
    2. I'm sure we haven't updated them. Will attempt to before the show.
    3. That's fair.
    4. I wouldn't expect unlockable teams/players to be available.

Thanks for setting this all up. NBA Jam is literally the only multiplayer game where I possess any skill, and it is seriously thrilling to actually be able to test it out.

Hey all. I'm heading to the AE tournament as soon as my plane lands. I don't have my fight stick though. What are the odds there will be sticks around for use? Anyone willing to lend theirs? I'll be sad if I gotta try to play on pad!
