Really? Spamming airblast on ubers is like pyro 101. Even on pub servers everyone seems to know that.
Now, being effective with the airblast is another matter. A lot of pyros point straight up which means the medic is just going to hover there.

Of course every once in awhile you get the heavy that can zero in on you even when he is getting bounced all over the map and it's all pointless anyway.

I actually do the same thing with stickybombs; set them up in the medic's path and the blow them, letting the knockback separate them and their uber target.
I like it when you're about to uber a soldier or demo and they rocket jump away from you at the last second and a pyro caves your skull in with a huge axe
I'm saying that you never need to actually uber to cause your team to win as a medic in a lot of situations. Just existing and being a medic is often enough.
My friend is working on a roguelike game you can play if you want to. (It has free demo)
just use the musketeer rule as a medic and never be in a group of less than three
Marty: The future, it's where you're going? Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.
Now that I think about it lots of soldiers seem totally cool with rocket jumping to safety and leaving me to get torn apart by a swarm of scouts
he who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day.... he who sticks around with a medic who doesn't drop that uber, waits 15 seconds for respawn
I love when you're reinforcing a big push as a medic and you're like, "Well, that guy's about to die, I bet if I heal him for a moment he'll push up thinking I'll uber him and take out a couple guys, which'll open things up nicely after he dies and I give the REAL uber to this guy..."
For a supposedly "helping" class, playing medic can encourage a wonderfully utilitarian approach to your teammates' lives.
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.
I hate healing a combat class that is afraid of getting into combat. Just... you have 300 health! Hit the front lines!
There is nothing more frustrating than sitting on an uber with a Sentry gun around the corner, and these milquetoast motherfuckers refuse to get in there until I actually pop the damn thing.
Sure, let's waste several seconds of uber for you to walk around the corner so that the Engie can heal his gun through the remaining seconds of it and we can go back to square zero because you didn't have the testicular/ovarian fortitude to get the fuck in there and trust your motherfucking medic.

Medics get let down by bad teammates all the fucking time. Usually the only players that get "let down" by me are the idiots who automatically assume they'll be getting ubered simply because a) I'm healing them, and b) I'm at 100%. I have a microphone, I'll inform you if/when we're pushing.

yeah uh getting "let down" by a medic is often code for "medic did not follow me into certain death"

I'll be honest, the only times I can think of being "let down" by a medic is when they had an uber ready, we were both running into a situation where an uber would be useful, and they didn't use it until we were both quite dead.
which, as a thing that happens, is still a damn rare thing.

usually, if a medic dies before me, it's because I didn't notice them saying "there's a spy/scout/pyro after me".
I'm trying to get better at caring for one's medic, I really am. sometimes I even remember to give them sandwiches.
Well you can get let down by your medic like derping out and not running in front of you to body-block a sentry (LEARN), or occasionally those dim bulbs who seem to insist on walking ahead of you so they can see what's going on.
Or if you're playing vaccinator there's way more room for screwing up, then you need to always hit the right resists and when there's multiple damage types coming in know which one's a higher damage source immediately.

Shit, that's happened to me so many times. These days once the Ubercharge is about to run out I'm already planning my escape route, while that idiot soldier is still trying to take on half the enemy team. Good luck with that buddy, I'm going this way.

I play pubs too often... usually at this point I'm chasing after the medic who keeps pressing further towards enemy lines... hoping that I'll be able to keep enemy distracted long enough for the medic to realize they're not ubered anymore and should probably retreat.

To be fair, my cavalier attitude towards self preservation in these cases means I've probably abandoned more than a few teammates to die when, if I had stuck with them, they might have survived. But, you know, fuck 'em.

I never trust the medic to be competent enough to do this
not without reasonable assurance

There are a lot of factors that go into such decisions. If a medic has an uber ready and I'm playing Demo I won't just go out there and attempt the push unless one or two other teammates are there to back it up. Heading in to smash the sentries won't do any good if the rest of the team is still on the approach. Understandably a few medics would want to use that uber before somebody lobs a crit rocket at us or something, and think of my hesitance as uselessness.
As a medic I usually say something like "I'm ready whenever you are" to tell my buddy I'm okay with them pushing, I'll support them.

Weigh the risks, abandon the teammate who is an unsafe bet for your survival. That soldier who would let you die will be replaced by another soldier who is waiting around the corner. You, as the medic with a 65% uber charge, are likely the only medic on the team, and that uber is going to take time to build up again if you die.

I'm sympathetic to the problem that audio (and voice acting in particular) is the most difficult thing to create in your basement, but those videos would have been a thousand times better if it had been more than mashing together random voice clips from the game.
