there's a merchant in revenants toll that has tomes you can trade items for, I thought for sure they would drop off the hard mode primals but no dice. where do they come from?
Just FYI it appears creation is currently open on Sargatanas. I just made a character for a friend so he can play there hopefully. Seemed to work, let me make em and started the opening cutscene.
I see people in revenants toll with full dark gear, like, every slot, along with relic weapon. How many amdapor runs would it take you to do that. I mean, the games been out a week.

Well I'm puzzled. I played a little bit on Early Access weekend but now that I try to log into the game, the MOG Station shows my account as Inactive. Trying to activate or add any other service accounts gives me a Your Registration Code Is Already In Use message; yes it's in use by an Inactive account which I'm trying to make active. Help me out here, people, I'm TRYING TO GIVE YOU MONEY. Is Square Enix's account management stuff always this bad ?
Looks like I have a fun day of waiting on hold for Customer Support ahead of me...

So I hadn't checked my mail today and I just checked my amazon package tracker thingy and it turns out my game arrived earlier today, a day early! I'm installing now! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some people play tennis, I erode the human soul. ~ Tycho
Good King Moogle Mog will returning as a boss fight. More than likely he will be accessible through the duty finder. Please look forward to it.
A new difficulty for Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan fights will be added in this patch as well. They haven’t quite decided if they’ll call them hard, super, ultra, extreme, or any other awesome intense name. I can see it now. “Ifrit, for real this time”.
Also new Hildibrand quests and FATEs are being added. If you didn’t know, Hildibrand was a comic relief NPC from version 1.0. He has his own… unique sense of humor.
The Wolves Den, a 4v4 and 8v8 arena will be opening in this patch. You can travel to it by boat from Lower La Noscea, and to enter the arena you must use the Duty Finder.
And lastly, Mists, the La Noscea player housing region will be unlocked in 2.1. Houses are available to Free Companies and individual players for a monetary value.
Patch 2.2
New Primal fights will be introduced. Yoshida stated that they will be “ones that new players haven’t even imagined.”
Either Leviathan, Shiva or Ramuh will be in 2.2. It has yet to be revealed which one, but they all seem like fun fights and fun stories to flesh out!
Gilgamesh might make an appearance as a boss fight in either 2.2 or 2.3.
It is possible that Free Companies will have the ability to summon their own Primal (FATE?) battles in this patch. No concrete details have been announced though. If not 2.2 then possibly 2.3.
And Beyond!
Patch 2.3 is the target release for the Golden Saucer! The reason they haven’t revealed much about it is because they are currently busy working on it. They are hoping to have at least 3 mini games available before they release it into the game. Yoshida says perhaps a card game, a mini game, or a snowboarding game. I’d love to snowboard down Coerthas with my Lalafell!
It has also been confirmed that the first draft of the first expansion has been submitted! Obviously there is a lot of work to be done, but at least they are planning for the future!
Now if only I could unlock field leves without needing a fighting class of the appropriate level.
Yes, I feel a need to bitch about that randomly, until I get around to unlocking all the levemetes. By grinding drg. To be able to cap fishing in a reasonable amount of time.
In regards to the Free Company's and Primals, I thought what I read was they'd allow a Free Company to -capture- a Primal and summon it to do their bidding once before having to recapture it.
I see people in revenants toll with full dark gear, like, every slot, along with relic weapon. How many amdapor runs would it take you to do that. I mean, the games been out a week.
It takes roughly 65-70 clears of Amdapor Keep to get fully equipped in Darklight, and another dozen to complete the relic weapon (assuming you can kill titan). I did it in two days, averaging 16-20 minutes per clear. The joys of having a few days off work!
Now I get to wipe like mad to Garuda and Titan to get my Relic weapon.
I have tried to get into crafting for the past few days and i am very much impressed.
There is gear and food to improve performance and the actual crafting process itself feels like a turn based battle system with quite a few options once a few cross class abilities like tricks of the trade or rumination are unlocked.
I might just spend the weekend crafting away instead of progressing with my battle class.
The variables during crafting are item durability, progress, quality, the current condition and your crafting points (think of them as mp for your crafting abilities).
Every time you try to improve progress or quality, the durability decreases. You need to fill the progress bar before durability hits 0 or you fail. So far, so boring. That's all you can do for the first 5 levels, but those fly by fast.
At level 5, you get an action to improve quality that costs cp. That introduces you to the concept of balance between progress and quality, it's unlikely to run out of cp, but possible to run out of durability.
Starting from level 7, you can restore durability, but the ability has a high cp cost.
It just ramps up more and more. Condition gives a bonus/penalty to the increase of the hq bar for the next action. With more abilities, more options open up. If for example condition changes to "good" you might want to aim for qualitiy progress for the 50% bonus. Or you choose tricks of the trade to recover cp but revert the condition back to normal.
Pretty much all the things you need to level a crafting class to level 15 is sold by the guild and the cost is offset by the class quest
gil rewards for the most part, so it's easy to jump in and just try it out.
For the gil talk on the previous pages.... Just an FYI, allagan pieces drop from chests in the level 50 dungeons. The ones that sell for 100 gil. So that is another way gil enters the game endgame. It might seem dumb that its the 100gil ones, but I end up with tons of them all the time.
So the hydra boss is pathetically easy... however the group I was with didn't have the patience to try it more than 3 times. Second try we got him to 10%
And that's with the WHM never keeping stoneskin up on me at all.
Is there a mana/cast reason that keeping stoneskin up is hard? Hydra does a triple attack that can drop even the most geared tanks, but all his other attacks are weak as shit or avoidable.

I wonder wonder Stoneskin or Adloquium shields more on average.

I generally don't bother use stoneskin on the main tank once a battle has started. It evaporates basically instantly and it's more MP efficient to just heal. I just try to keep it up on everyone else, so that they have a better chance to survive when they pull an add or something. (Unless the battle is AOE-heavy, as keeping it up just isn't practical, then).
I suppose it'd be a different story if stoneskin is required for the tank to survive a specific attack, but that hasn't come up yet.

Well I watched a few videos and watched the tanks buffs. I never saw them get huge spikes of damage... and it seems stoneskin was the reason. So next time I'll bug the WHM to use it.
Basically Hydra does some frontal cast that any tank can avoid, his normal attacks are pretty weak as well. He just does a triple attack that you can avoid if there is no melee dps by just running around him in circles... but since it would be rare to have no melee dps, the tank typically eats the triple attack and it knocks off a good 3-4k HP, with all ilvl 60-70 gear too. I'm just going to assume the PUG WHM we had just didn't bother to keep stoneskin on me.
Triumvirate is split between all targets that get hit by it, ideally you have two tanks eating 2k hits instead of one eating a 4k+ ;P
Well we had another tank, he was mainly there for adds. He seemed to be the "expert" on the fight according to him, but was never near the actual boss really.
Should he have been in front of the boss right next to me then?
I thought the adds did such little damage that the second tank never bothered with them, but he insisted they are tanked while I single tank the boss.
Of course the group gave it 3 tries and that was it for some reason, so there wasn't really a chance to even check if we did anything wrong.

I don't doubt that it can be done with one beefy tank, but we tried it a few times and it just seemed like it was adding unnecessary difficulty to the fight. With two tanks moving in tandem the whole fight, healing seemed much more manageable (after the soak tank stopped eating white breaths, anyway). Hell, getting him to 10% is proof enough that one tank can work!

When I did it, my MNK or even the bard would just take aggro on the add and burn it down. It dies fast enough and does such little damage that it shouldn't warrant a tank. I guess if you don't have a DPS that can hold it off of the healers or something? I dunno.

This is generally how I use it. Stoneskin costs more than double what it costs to heal for the same amount, and the heals can crit or be increased by Divine Seal. Spamming it on the tank is just going to bleed my mana dry. I think it would about equalize in terms of efficiency with Cure 1 once the tank has 6000ish health? It still wont proc free Cure 2's, so still not as efficient.
I keep it up on myself and the squishy dps if there's spiky damage, and only occasionally on the tank if something is putting out big hits and it's an encounter that requires movement so I might not be able to bomb a heal immediately.
If the Hydra triple attack thing hit that hard and is unavoidable, sure I'd use it. But other than that, it's pretty much an "I hate having this full mana bar how can I empty it quickly" skill.
Leveling CNJ is painful. My life improved substantially when I got THM unlocked to pick up lightning. Are there any other low-level cross class abilities I should pick up to ease the solo leveling on CNJ?
What he said. I started using less Thunder once I got Stone 2, but it depends on how much health your target has... If it's taking 10 stones to kill it, keep using Thunder.
Here's all the stuff you can get.Virus from ACN isn't awful, and you'll need it for White Mage. Raging Strikes from ARC for a damage cooldown. Nothing super spectacular.
And then at 45 you'll get Holy, which is similar to a supernova.

Agreeing with all of this. I got by fine with just Thunder, and I never completely stopped using Thunder until I got Aero2.
I never really had any issues with leveling, but 45-50 was hilarious.
starting to play the markets a little on my miner, would have done more last night but helped out on 3 runs and got a CC done for my hunting log =D

It seems like the design doc for this one is to make a FF mashup. All the best of FF in one place.
FFXIV:ARR is really shaping up to be Yoshi-P's love letter to the Final Fantasy franchise.
It's a brilliant idea, really.
