Cash to spend: how much to bring?

Doctor WhoDoctor Who Registered User new member
This is my friend and I's first PAX, and excluding hotel costs and of course the badges, both of which we already have thankfully, how much should we bring for spending at the show? I go to college in the area (sadly its out till after PAX, otherwise wouldn't even need the hotel XD), so I know about cheap food nearby, but what about in the show itself? Are there lots of things to buy, and are they really expensive? Any advice would be much appreciated for us :)

Entirely depends on what you want to buy. PA will have their merch booth, Pink Gorilla will be there as well, as well as some tabletop vendors, but PAX itself isn't really focused on stores and people buying stuff. Hard to say how much you'll need.

Is it PAX <insert nearest future PAX here> yet?

I usually bring about $100 in cash for Penny Arcade merch and maybe a plushie that I find from another vendor. Sanshee will be there and they have awesome shirts and jewelry as well.

I don't know that I've ever spent a nickel on the show floor.

Ok, good to know, thank you! I have about $150 right now saved up, and was just worried it wasn't enough. Thanks for the help guys!

Uh.. Ha... I somehow spend hundreds every year.

    PAX T-Shirt: $20
    Band CDs: $10-20 each
    Chessex Dice: $5-10
Board Games, board games everywhere: $$$$$
(Misc PAX Forum items that won't relate to you): $$$

I'd say $100 is a fine budget for a typical PAX goer (they will buy a t-shirt, some CDs, and a companion cube plushie) and $200 is for a more spendy person (buying all that plus retro game items, board games, computer accessories like mice, pre-ordering games to get swag, PINNY ARCADE, Random Merch from the booths that sell stuff, Gunner Glasses, D&D Books, Magic Card Game stuff, etc...)

You could pick up a geekchic Sultan table and drop a few thousand, though I imagine they'll take a credit card. http://www.geekchichq.com/the-sultan-gaming-table.html.
You might be able to get a deathstalker ultimate razer keyboard for a couple hundred http://www.razerzone.com/store/razer-deathstalker-ultimate
And there may be some rare art pieces or something. But for the most part, you are definitely in a good ballpark.

Dang that's an expensive table! I'm more of a video gamer than tabletop gamer myself (only tabletop game I think I would expect to find there would be Heroscape, and even then I don't actively play it really anymore sadly :()

Personally I only plan to buy the Prime Pinny Arcade set and a Prime shirt. Almost every booth takes credit cards, so I'd say bring some cash for the cash only booths (Mega64 is the only one I can think of, but I'm sure there's more), and use your card elsewhere, of course depending how much you're willing to spend and what you're interested in.
