Looking for a new gaming monitor

So, my trusty and beloved LG L227WTG is starting to give me issues on powering up, and I'm afraid it's going to give up the ghost soon. Which means I now have to delve into the hellish nightmare of a rabbit-hole that is monitor shopping. The primary focus of this monitor is going to be for playing my PC games, with some web browsing and video playing on the side. My worry is that most of the initial gaming oriented monitors that I've seen are 120hz with TN panels. I have a very good system, and I like to crank the settings up as much as I can, which means that in most games I won't be hitting that 120fps mark or anywhere near. Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.

I spent about a year looking around for an upgrade to my NEC 20wmgx2. Looked closely at the ASUS P24AQ, even bought the Dell S23 but then returned it when it turned out to have serious overshoot problems. I finally settled on an Apple Cinema Display 24" and am really happy with it. Though I pretty much can't stand anything other than glossy. Some people prefer matte, in which case a Dell Ultrasharp would probably be the best.

IPS panels are getting faster. And the colour depth and blacks are going to be visibly better than a TN panel.

My primary gaming monitor is this 21.5" LG IPS panel. I don't care about 120hz, and even though this isn't the most amazing IPS panel, the color representation is seriously night and day compared to any old TN panel. The colors are really bright and vivid, and I won't go back to TN.

Just keep in mind if you really, really like playing Super Hexagon, you don't want to play it on an IPS display. An IPS display is great, but if you like to play really, really twitchy games, it will be a detriment to your ability to play.

If you play only mildly twitch things, go for the IPS display.

I decided to grab an ASUS VG248QE from Newegg. Should be arriving Wednesday, hopefully.
