SE++, let's do a makeover!
Want a new look? New hair? New glasses? New ways of wearing makeup? Whole new wardrobe? Just got a new item of clothing but aren't sure how to match it with the stuff you've already got? You've come to the right place – this is a thread for feedback, input, suggestions, tips, tricks, and a place to feel good about yourself and how you look!
I'm not saying you're not already gorgeous or perfect just the way you are – you're a pack of wonderful people. But let's face it, even the very best of us have days where we just don't feel up to snuff. Sometimes, looking in the mirror and feeling like, hey, my eyebrows look amazing today is just enough to make a day easier to survive.
"I think happiness is what makes you pretty. Period. Happy people are beautiful. They become like a mirror and they reflect happiness." – Drew Barrymore
HOW THIS WORKS
If you're interested in feedback/input, share a photo or two of how you look now. Tell us what your concerns are and what kind of look you'd like to have (sample photos are helpful). Or, you can start with a post about what your concerns are and maybe we'll ask to see photos of you to help us guide you!
WHAT IF I DON'T WANT A MAKEOVER?
That's fine – come on in and offer feedback or trade general tips/advice. Talk about the latest trends or discuss general "look" ideas with what you've got in your wardrobe! I also really like the idea of showing us a bunch of your clothes and we all come up with various ways to create new outfits with the various bits and pieces – this, I think, would be
awesome to do.
SOME GUIDELINES
If you'd like to give feedback/input, keep it constructive. Just because you don't like a certain style or look doesn't make it an objectively bad option. If you post links, make sure they're from reasonably good and reliable sources.
Don't offer feedback on something that someone didn't ask for. If someone is asking for tips on hairstyles, for example, let's not also point out the zit on their nose.
Do not recommend products or materials as being "perfectly safe" unless you are a dermatologist or a doctor. Just because something has been safe for you to use does not mean the same for those with different skin types or health concerns. This is particularly true of cosmetics.
Sometimes, folks feel down on themselves. We all have shit we hate and love about ourselves, and those things can change on a day-to-day basis. In this thread, please
do not assume people are fishing for compliments. It's not only a rude assumption to make, but ultimately unhelpful to the spirit of this thread. Even if it's painfully obvious to you that folks have nothing to worry about, it doesn't mean they feel that way.
This is just me talking here, but let's try not to quote giant streams of pictures over and over again. Either isolate the one you're talking about or spoiler them. I know this is hard to do on a phone, but you can always @ the person who posted the picture, too.
Most importantly: we want to keep this as a positive and upbeat place to talk about how we look. This does not mean we don't value who we are as people inside; it just means we want to look as fabulous as we are.
MAKEOVER LIST
If people are interested, I can maintain a list of people in the OP with links to their various makeover photos – before, in progress, and after. @ me if this is a thing you'd like to do.

Also, on Kate's suggestion, I'm looking at buying some cute Skechers or Nike sneakers so that I can at least feel sort of adorable while I'm still not able to wear heels (or most flats).
Like seriously, I love almost all of these.
Mostly just waiting on a sale or something since most of my money is going into our new house!
I feel like I am in a pretty good place, but last month I spent the whole month doing a homestay in the food and beer capital of Japan, with a homestay mother that was very generous with her delicious cooking, where I didn't have a gym membership, and I got sick for two weeks of the homestay as well. It was like, the perfect storm of eating too much and not doing enough activity. But hey, how many times in my life am I going to have access to all you can eat lamb and all you can drink beer? I've got my diet and exercise regimen back in place now that I am back home in Tohoku, but, it is going to take some time to work off the damage. Just a matter of sticking with it.
That said, bring on the makeovers!
In a personal fashion/beauty victory, I wore my hair up all day long today without taking it down. The bun may have been a bit grandmotherly/librariany but whatever! My hair is like a security blanket to me and I can't remember the last time I had it up this long!
Spoilered so not everyone has to see my mug
It's just so... boring.
How does your hair behave when it gets longer? Is it curly or straight?
But I do look okay bald so eh.
I need clothes desperately. I'm down to like 5 decent shirts... I have to do laundry a lot.
my middle school yearbook begs to differ
I'm told that I need bangs. My hair line is a little high up on my forehead and my hair is super fine so I kind of always feel like it's a little inadequate for frontal coverage. Please don't mind my fatness. I'm thinking that since my lips are already awesome I will probably just focus on eye makeup (er...I guess. I've been told to do 'one or the other but never both').
What do you think? Do you need more information?
Steam
I'm blushing. Thank you. I never knew how much I'd enjoy being compared to a Roman General/Ceasar.
Reeeaallly blushing. Thank you for the nice words.
It's curly until about a little less then shoulder length. After that it gets a bit wavy but a little more straight.
YAYYYY MAKEOVERS
Taking care of yourself, dressing well and all that jazz is just as important for guys as ladies.
I am sure if you post some pictures or descriptions up for the thread to work with that people will be more than happy to give you advice.
I also need more regular fit jeans since back when my mother bought my clothing all I got was relaxed fit and got used to it. Just felt better.
I need new shoes too.
God though. I'm on a tight budget clothes are pricey.
You can do both! The idea is if you're going really high-impact with either your eye makeup or lip color, keep the other elements fairly simple/neutral.
well maybe it ain't the do that's the problem there, bucko
wanting to change "everything" can be daunting, not to mention expensive
is there something specific you'd really like to start changing or would like suggestions on first? because once you start on one thing, you'll find it's easier to make decisions for everything else since you've got a base to work with
@uriel
if you like levis, you can keep an eye on the clearance section of their website
you can snag some amazing stuff there, if you can find your size
i have never snagged something, but there are huge discounts there
Yeah maybe if the clearance was 75 or 80 percent?
My first thought is: you have great eyebrows. In terms of natural shape and such. You also have an awesome nose which makes for a brilliant profile.
Second, the eye/lip thing isn't set in stone, but the general rule is that if you are going for very dramatic eye makeup, you might want something less bright/bold and more neutral for your lips... and vice versa. Otherwise it's a bit over-the-top. If you've got great lips, you could go for neutral eye makeup and a bright color on your lips to highlight how great they are.
Bangs are a thing to get used to and are not for everyone; I avoided them for a long time before I got very sick of looking at my fivehead, and with bangs they do bring a bit of youthfulness to your face. Your hairdresser can always bring more hair to the front to thicken up your bangs if the hair is too fine, or go with blunt bangs with make them look thicker/stronger.
i think i might need a change.
e: argh. iphone photos are hueg
Mohawk.
Just trust me here I'm an expert.
once i get a steady job. can't interview in a mohawk.
Honestly, if I could get away with it at work I would so love to try and rock a mohawk. Maybe shave the sides and back but leave a wide strip up top, and comb it down when I go to work. And/or wear my hardhat constantly.
Then on my days off I'd spike the shit out of it.
yeah it's a really striking look for sure
I think it's because it's got a lot of clean lines - straight hair line, clean lip line with no blurriness on the edges, very crisp look
if it's a bit too intense, you can also go with some sideswept bangs that may suit the softness and texture of your hair better; mostly it depends on how much maintenance you'd like
and the advantage of a lip-focussed look is that it's generally easier to learn right off the bat and then you can take your time to work on your eye technique, since neutrals are super easy to use
I would say hair. Both on the scalp and on the face. I think cloths are ok for now. I've been losing weight recently so a new wardrobe is hopefully only about a year away.
But I totally would not mind having something like that picture going on.
As someone who once had a mohawk, they are a ton of work. Personally, I think you should either get your hair a little shorter, or about 2-3 inches longer. Your in this weird middle ground.
