I had a few friends over last night. We were drinking and listening to music, small party atmosphere, and I accidently knocked over someone's screwdriver. Now there is a big piss-colored stain on the carpet. Any suggestions on getting a stain like this out? I'd prefer to not lose my deposit over an OJ stain. The worst part is that class is over in May and I'm going home for the summer. I was so close.
I don't have any specific advice on the stain, but wanted to say that if you're in an apartment, you would have had a lot of trouble getting the full deposit back anyway. They're notorious for adding on all sorts of extra fees on to the end when you move out that saps at the deposit. My friends and I only got $100 of the $500 deposit even though we cleaned the place like no other.
Did you actually try any cleaners at all before you made this post. I mean... it's not rocket science. You just go the the store and buy a cleaner that says "stain removed".

no you cannot have a sig that size. especially with compression that crappy.

That's weird, I could have sworn I covered that. Nope, I guess I didn't; sorry. Well the answer is: yes of course I tried a carpet cleaner. It faded the stain slightly making it look less like OJ and more like urine. All I could think was, "Shit. Now she's going to think I've been keeping a pet."
I like me a steam or hot water vacuum. Good for all sorts. Barring that, a good friend once showed my a trick where you get an expendable tea towel and a glass of water. Pour a bit of water on the stain and scrub like a bastard until its dry. (I don't mean pat here people, I mean scrub like you're trying to remove a layer of skin) pour some more on, repeat, pour more, repeat, pour more, repeat. Rinse towel, grab new towel, get more water (and a friend to take turns as your arms will be getting sore) and pour repeat some more until you have a brilliantly clean spot of dampness. Allow dampness to dry.
This works best when the spill is fresh, and I've noted it helps to have a buzz on to kill the mind-numbing repetition of it all. Does work wonders though.
I think even soap and water would take care of that.
Oddly enough, I did not try regular soap and water. I tried club soda first. That didn't work, so I went to Target and bought some generic carpet cleaner. Still nothing. I just made the post hoping someone knew some kind of stain removing secret. It's a long shot, I know.
A steam cleaner should get that out no prob. Give that a try soon. You would have to get the carpets done when you move out anyway, but it's best to try and clean that asap.
Well thank you everyone, but I think I'm resigned to a depositless future. I'll have the place steam cleaned before I leave, but I can't afford it right now. Sarcastro idea may work... but god that's a lot of scrubbing. I just used boiling hot water and soap. It improved ever-so-slightly. I'm done here. Thank you.

You can buy a nice Bissel cleaner for 30 bucks and it cleans great. Small enough to be operated with one hand.

Yeah, there's steam cleaners below the level of the ones you rent when you move.
Unf. the thing to do with a stain like this is actually clean it before it dries, but failing that you can try direct application of dish-soap after you re-wet the stain with warm water. You'll have to clean it more then once if it's bad. Another hint is to take a comb and rake up the carpet with it every time you wet it - that keeps it from changing texture.
Dude, if you're gonna leave the stain, don't pay for a steam cleaner before you leave. Why spend the extra money if you're not even planning on getting your deposit back? make them rent the steam cleaner and take it off your deposit.
I've had a few friends who have shit like that happen and they figure they're not gonna get the deposit back. They don't panic and rent steam cleaners a month before moving out -- they give up and simply don't clean the place AT ALL. They figure the deposit goes towards hiring a cleaning service to come in and do the work for you
Not all places are vicious about deposits, of course. Some will do anything to keep them, while others will just ping you for obvious problems. Like the stain on the carpet -- sure, it's ugly and they'll have to get it cleaned. So they rent a steam cleaner and have the maintenance guy run it, and ping you the $50 or so they were charged.

I'm pretty sure you guys got hosed then, and there's a whole host of other issue at play there (they didnt adhere to proper landlord and tenant law)
Oxyclean powder. Make a paste of it and scrub it in. Let it set a little before cleaning it off. Might have to repeat, but not much. I've cleaned some nasty crap off of a white rug with that stuff.

NO.
First make up a very small amount then apply a VERY small amount to the corner of the room where people can't see it.
Check to see if it turns the carpet a weird colour.
Then carry on.
This should be considered when you stick anything on a carpet that isn't water.

2 put a bunch of paper towels on it.
3 stomp on the paper towels with a booted foot (a foot with a boot).
4 Stomp it.
5 Stomp it again.
6 Stomp it good.
7 Stomp it harder.
8 Maybe even try jumping on it.
9 Remove paper towels
