From LAT
District of Columbia police say they are no longer looking for other gunmen in the mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday morning, indicating that the victims of the attack were all killed by a single shooter.

Photos and a small amount of info about the shooter.

More info about the shooter from TV: Served in the Naval Reserves from 2007-2011, was recently working as a contractor. Previously arrested in Fort Worth in 2010 for recklessly discharging a gun and some years prior for shooting a car's tires.

So living nearish there, the base I usually work at is extremely on edge. Security has been beefed up like crazy.

I've been to NAVSEA before. Pretty crazy stuff.

That's something I don't get about this and hope they find out. NAVSEA just designs and builds ships. A shooting wouldn't actually do much damage so I can only assume it was to make some sort of statement.

I'm guessing it was a crazy Government Contractor that was hit hard by the sequestration stuff so he just eventually lost it.

Disgruntled employee/former employee is one of the old standbys the news seems to have already fallen back on, from what I've read elsewhere, but as is always cautioned in these threads, we should obviously wait for actual information rather than jumping to conclusions/assumptions.

This guy was apparently a prior naval reserve NCO.

Edit: Also a prior arrest in 2010 for shooting a gun in public.

NBC is saying it's his original home. Cable news though so yeah.

Speculation: Contracting is the most likely reason for him to have been out there. As a reservist it's possible he worked there while living in Fort Worth. Depending on a person's skill set and clearance they can be doing their yearly two weeks far from home. But this guy separated a couple years ago.

If he was there as a contractor it could be a number of things actually.

Really wish we had more details on this. Depending on why he was there. Could be the disgruntled employee thing (if he didn't have a job there, then this wouldn't be very likely. I'd think most people that are disgruntled with the sequestration fucking them over, would choose a different place to vent their violence, but then again there are lots of people that are ignorant of many things going on around them). Could be the dude was crazy, the incident down in Ft. Worth adds some credence to this possibility.

Regardless, this is terrible. Also Frum pretty much nailed it, though I'm wondering how many idiots are going to miss that he is being sarcastic.

I'm watching the news in DC, and all I caught was that tourists at the fences were being escorted away and Secret service said that it was secure. May have been some "Here's what happened"d earlier stuff. Loterally got like 5 seconds before commercial.

Shooting at a government/military installation in DC is going to get the White House locked down HARD.

Was he being sarcastic? I mean he was definitely being flippant, but I'm pretty sure he believes in the overall point that he appeared to be making.

    From the article:
David Frum is a former Bush Administration speechwriter and one of the loudest conservative voices arguing in favor of new laws targeted at reducing gun violence.

Given that David Frum is supportive of gun control, it's safe to say he is being sarcastic, since all of those rules are the BS that shitty gun rights groups try to impose any time a shooting happens.

    From MSNBC news:

He was working there as a contractor and lost his job while working there.

He also came in with just the shotgun and picked up the two other guns off of security.

9 years ago he was also arrested when out of anger he shot a work truck's tires that parked near his home.

I think what he's saying is a lot of people consider themselves "responsible gun owners" until their kid ends up blowing their own head off because they aren't responsible gun owners.
