Dog pissed on Xbox 360 Slim power supply...

SagrothSagroth Registered User regular
So yeah, my dog inexplicably peed all over my slim power supply.

My slim won't turn on at all, but I have noticed that the light on the power supply won't turn on no matter what socket it is plugged into.

I have noticed that no retailer sells a power supply separately, so I have one on the way from Amazon.

I am also going over later today after class to borrow a friend's power supply and confirm that that is the problem, but I guess my question is: how panicked should I be?

Is this most likely just the power supply, or could it have fried my console(no urine got on the system itself, and to my knowledge the system was no on when this happened)?

And if the system did get fried, could it have screwed up my hard drive?

I can deal with having to replace my system, but all those hours of saved games being gone would be a tough thing to bear.

I would be slightly to moderately worried about your system, depending on whether or not it was ever on or was attempted to be turned on with the defunct power brick. There are pretty good fail safes in modern hardware but they aren't invulnerable so there's always a chance you are one of the few who gets hosed. So very slightly worried if it was never on, moderately worried otherwise.

As for the hard drive you are almost certainly fine. Unless it was in the middle of writing something when it died you probably wont have any issues there.

My XBox 360 died, and I simply bought another one with no drive and slotted in the old drive. Dunno if newer models work this way.

This still works. I even took the HD out of an OG 360 and put it in a new Slim (with a bit of physical work).

That said, most power supplies have pretty complex protection circuits. It probably didn't hurt your 360 at all, and a new PSU is far cheaper than a new 360. It's worth trying if nothing else.

Yep. Got a new power supply from Amazon for $30 after one-day shipping. If it turns out to be the whole system, I'll ship it back for a refund.

Essentially, what I'm most looking for is a risk assessment so I can calm down about this a bit(I have major anxiety issues, and gaming is a huge relaxer for me, so I'm taking this harder than I should).

And given your last statement as well as what Jebus said above, it looks like there is a good chance that there is little cause for concern, which helps.

You can probably get a power supply for almost nothing from someone with a dead Xbox 360.

Also, I wish to note that I am not mad at my dog over this or anything. He's old, dumb, and half-crippled, but I love him a lot and will in no way let this affect how I treat him.

It should go without saying, but some people are crazier than I am so yeah.

Yeah, had I been home today instead of at school, Craigslist would have been my choice.

As is, one-day shipping should get it to me by tomorrow afternoon, which should suffice.

Well, the old fat 360s apparently use a different cable from the PSU block to the box. So maybe! Not as many dead Slims around ;)
