Slingshot is good. it gets you a decent heavy with predictable spawns and early Muton autopsy. you also do not go on any other Slingshot missions. because those suck balls.
way better than a bomb disposal you are not going to do.

slingshot gets you a guaranteed early blaster launcher if you keep the resources from the final mission

Oh I figured it was all clockwork down there, that's fine then. I dunno I seem to have a hang up where if a cyborg is more than 50% synthetic all the regular bits start seeming like liabilities

Well, I mean, they also speak in a robotic monotone, so I think the implication is that there's quite a bit more going on under the surface, but becoming a quadriplegic in order to wear robot arms and legs is kind of... foreboding, I guess? It's an uncomfortable thought.

I'd volunteer for it

I had pretty much no interest in the cybernetics and decided to create an entire team of genetically superior supermen. And oh my gooooood I just tried out that mimetic skin.
wouldnt go for the gene moddin unless there's a HOT LADY alien gene mod i dont know about
I'm sure Vahlen has some experimental radical ideas kicking around, that didn't get official approval.

I wouldn't want either. You know why?
They both involve a field position with XCOM.
I mean, base seems safer than a major city, but give me one of the labcoats, a clipboard, and a safe distance between me and the aliens any day. I mean, Vahlen's crazy but she seems to avoid taking it out on any of the humans involved with the project.
My ultimate opinion of Enemy Within is pretty dang positive
But I'd sort of like to see the next xcom project Firaxis does be a full on expansion, rather than a Civ style one.
It'd be interesting to see what they'd do with a second one of this style though, especially given how historically (well, the past 2 anyway), the best Civ expansions are the 2nd ones.

how are you defining "full on expansion"? Just curious.

Something that adds an entirely new, but smaller than a sequel, campaign, rather than a modification of an existing one.
I read somewhere that the lead devs don't like Terror From The Deep. I wouldn't mind seeing that, because I think it's an interesting concept, but eh. Even though there's a sequel hook built right into x com, I don't really see where it goes from here.

Firaxis doesn't really go for traditional expansions though. They're definitely "full on" expansions, they're just integrated rather than discrete.

I've thinking about it more since I mentioned Cydonia
and I think it could be interesting if the focus went to defending the entire solar system
since humanity has advanced technology and all that, it would make a whole lot of narrative sense
that plot hook could be used to make a whole new tech tree
plus there could be more player options at the beginning of the game

I really like the plot behind Terror From The Deep, because it deals with the idea that all this tech just runs out, and then we're faced with an enemy that the tech wouldn't work against anyway. You could work a ton of interesting resource scarcity plot into the game, where humanity sees this new threat as more of a new source of elirium than anything else, and is over confident due to previous successes. Needless to say, shit gets real.

actually, one of the things you can build is an elerium generator
though i'd be surprised if we got too far from earth, solomon doesnt like terror from the deep because youre underwater and he feels xcom is about the contrast of the alien in familiar earth locales
we dont have too many underwater facilities where we can live, sadly
Xcom fluff definitely seems like sci-fi made with lots of love by huge nerds, I love to death interviews like the one Anti posted where a dev talks about design philosophy for MEC troopers

Well, you can, but they're usually instantly crushed and if they survive, they typically suffer from radiation burns and complications like leukimia.

Plus, in the original the pay was absurd.

Or maybe an alternate campaign
If they ever do a proper sequel for XCOM, I bet EXALT will be brought back

But it is a real neat idea
And I know firaxis doesn't typically do the full on sort of expansion, but I'd like to see them to.

It's a generator that works on Elirium, not a machine that generates Elirium.
that seems foolish

the titan armor makes specific mention about the scarcity of the element as well
any full XCOM expansions may have the soldiers start with laser weapons
and let's not forget that Meld is also a limited resource
so mecs and gene mods would be scarce given a timeframe
the background info for XCOM has been well thought out, props to the devs that made it

That's the standard terminology for power generators. Wind generator, coal generator, solar generator etc...
