I have a bad feeling about this Franzibald character. Not sure why.

In my day, we had to make do with passive-aggressive Facebook statuses like "is annoyed that some people think it's OK to write hacky fiction that totally rips off better authors".

I feel like I know this Franzibald character from the past, but I'm not recalling any previous jokes, which makes this strip not that funny to me.

Also, I have no idea who Buckley is.

Tim Buckley is the creator of Ctrl+Alt+Del.

And Ctrl+Alt+Del is openly reviled by a number of web comics artists. Last year, the Webcomics Weekly Podcast got back together just to talk about something he did with his strip.

While Franzibald is the in-universe Buckley, the comic might not be a reaction to something real-Buckley did. They might have just needed someone that Tycho hates.

Yeah, this doesn't feel like Franzibald being a hack and a pedophile is the joke. The joke is that people include the @ for the person they're attacking and then play it off like they're just having a conversation with their friend.

  • GaslightGaslight Registered User regular
Agreed, don't think this was precipitated by anything Buckley actually did recently, I doubt he is even on their radar, I think using Franzibald was just easier than making up some other character Tycho would dislike and confusing readers more.

I think that's a necklace. You can see it on earlier strips.

It even has lace in on the arms! Also, it looks like he(?) has breasts. A little high, but you get weird things when drawing M>F trans I guess.

I... what? I can't tell if you're trying to use the trans comment as a way of deriding the Franzibald character or just insulting the art or... what?

If the former- dude, not cool. Otherwise, eh. I think it's supposed to be overly-dude-bro-worked-out pecs.

I read this as an intentional retort to the folks who went ballistic due to the Sanderson comic on Monday. Sure, the Big Two don't read the forums, but I'm sure Tycho got emails about it that paralleled the posts here.

That's clearly a shell necklace and a tribal armband tattoo.

Glad I'm not the only one who hates the passive-aggressiveness perpetuated by social media.

As to this Franzibald/Buckley character: I don't read it regularly, but the stuff I've seen from Ctrl+Alt+Del isn't bad. Not sure what the animosity is about, as I just read the comics and don't care about any politics happening in the world of webcomic creators.

I'm the person who is directly under Tycho's tweet and I'm pretty sure this is the tweet of mine that was used: https://twitter.com/c_johnston/status/384758830069841920 from around noon on Sept 30th. I bought a print of it and it's easier to see where the pink links are on the print, and those look to be in the same spots.
