cant decide which one i wanna get,havent had either one but what would be the better rum to get.i usually mix rum but i figured id try something new and maybe get one that tastes good straight also

The key here, my friend, is how much you want to spend. I've not had Morgan private stock, but if it's anything like regular morgan it's not fit for much more than mixing. Jerry's is basically a classed up morgan.

Personally, if I'm buying spiced rum, I get Kraken. Now don't get me wrong: it's not amazing either. I like that it is 94-proof, as opposed to Morgan's 70 (80 for the private stock) and Jerry's 90 or 92 (I think), and that it tastes a bit more strongly of, well...spice.

Pyrat is good at a little over 20. Personally, I don't think jerry or cpt really stand out from a budget option like Castillo if you're just going to make drinks with it

Don't spend the money on Private Stock if your planning on mixing it.
Jerry or Morgan's Black is what I pick up for a normal day. Kraken is what I go for if I want to treat myself after a shitty day.

I am disagreeing with this so hard. Proof is only the most important thing if you hate the taste of alcohol, but like getting blasted.
Spiced rum is shit for sipping, but if you find some gosling's ginger beer and squeeze a few limes you can make some bitchin' dark and stormies. If you're looking for a sipping rum Ron Zacapa 23 is boss, but if you are looking for something a bit cheaper, I'd recommend Cockspur or Ron Barillito.
If you're choosing between Capt and Sailor, go Sailor.

Even if you're mixing a drink, your cocktail can only be as good as it's shittiest ingredient. So, yeah if you're mixing basic booze + dole juice, it aint gonna matter all that much.
Flavored Rum and Vodka are objectively disgusting products. The flavor is basically Kool Aid without food coloring. Infusing booze with flavors at home is the superior way to do it.
