I hope you're ready for a firefight
'Cause the devil's got your number tonight, they say
We're never leaving this place alive
But if we sing these words we'll never die
Get off the ledge and drop the knife
Not a victim of a victim's life
Because this ain't a room full of suicides
We're believers, I believe tonight

-My Chemical Romance, Save Yourself I'll Hold Them Back.

The Steadfast. Comprised of nine rival rulers, nine disparate nations who have carved some measure of stability out of the chaos of the Ninth World in order to provide a facsimile of peace to their people. In the aftermath of unimaginable aeons, civilizations have risen and fallen, species have grown from nothing, prospered, waned, and died out. None who now live know what once was, yet the spectre of that shared history marks every grain of sand, every particle of dust, every breath taken by the living.

The Beyond is vast. A wasteland of chaos and madness from which countless threats have risen to try and topple the powers of the Nine. Warped humans, vicious abhumans, and more esoteric horrors have long looked upon the fruits of The Nine with greedy eyes. But, thanks to a quirk of geography and the stalwart hearts of the brave few willing to stand in defence of their homes, they have ever failed to tip the balance and destabilize the peace of the lands. Some believe that the ancient defences of the nations, the great powers held by the Order of Truth and the armies which stand ready to defend these nations will ensure that the Ninth Age is one of prosperity and growth.

They are wrong.

Navarene, border between The Beyond and The Steadfast, has engaged in a crusade to eliminate the threat the unknown poses, and bring more territory into the waiting arms of the Nine. In so doing, they have awakened a terrible evil which the Order of Truth thought forever barred to this dimension. In some cursed ruins, Alexander Vrotz, Leader of the Bravesteel Dominion, found a gemstone black as night. What none knew was that this gemstone was the Eye of V'resh, and as well as incredible mental powers, it granted him awful visions which seem to have driven him completely insane.

The First Amber Pope of the Order of Truth warned against V'resh before he withdrew from this world. He knew not what form The Great Destroyer would take, only that it played a key role in the destruction of one of the ancient races which populated this world. They say it spread like a plague, killing the strong and the weak with equal ease, and that no mortal weapon could touch it. Sealed away in a device only known as the E-T-D-F, a sphere of smooth silver metal which is cool to the touch, the Great Destroyer was thought safely contained...

But now, Alexander is building an army of abhumans with which to storm the Steadfast, and take the E-T-D-F for himself, as the Order of Truth has denied him access to it - fearing that anyone else even knew of its existence!

The Order has gathered you, brave souls, to journey with the sphere out into the Beyond. To Nihilesh, a rotting machine-city which bears similar markings to that of the E-T-D-F, to see if there may be some way to destroy the Sphere forever, and free the world from the threat of the Great Destroyer once and for all.

But it shan't be easy. The journey is long and perilous, beset by barbarians and madmen, and the Order do not even know if the powers that be in Nihilesh will be receptive. But if The Sphere should fall into the hands of Alexander, what small measure of peace exists in the Ninth Age may be snuffed out forever!

So... hi!

I recently got my copy of Numenera, and I am totally in love with the science-fantasy setting, the bizarre weirdness, and the cool setting! I would like to take a crack at running it online! I've... never run an online tabletop game before, but I have been running tabletop face-to-face for about ten years now, so I feel pretty qualified to give it a go!

I'd prefer players who also have access to Numenera. Because of the nature of character creation, interlocking backgrounds are encouraged! And any book-legal option (excluding optional mutations and races) is acceptable. Hopefully the influences at play in the adventure pitch are pretty blatant, so keep that in mind as you ponder character options! I'll happily answer any questions people might have, though I will stress that I see this working as three 'acts' in a long-term story which, I imagine, will take a long period to play out over the internet.

Act 1 - The Journey to Nihilesh, wherein our heroes are introduced and overcome the trials and tribulations of travel in The Beyond.
Act 2 - The Broken City, wherein the heroes must unlock the secrets of the E-T-D-F and ???
Act 3 - Rage Against the Light, as the heroes put what they have learned into action and ???, ???!

I'm looking for between 4 and 6 players, though I could work with slightly more or slightly less depending on interest. Again, this is my first attempt at an online story so... there may be some hiccups. I considered doing something smaller scope first but, honestly, this is the story I want to tell, and if there's one thing I've learned over the years it is that it is better to go for a story you really are invested in than something 'just to see how the system works'.

Themes evoked in Numenera are discovery, wonder, exploration, and the excitement (and danger) of the unknown. There have been eight civilizations which unlocked, to varying degrees and in varying ways, the keys with which to manipulate reality. Nobody knows precisely how they fell, only that they have each left the world radically changed in their passing.

If you're interested, please sign up below! If you've been itching to play a particular character, throw up the details, too! Numenera, by virtue of its system, tends to spin out interesting and intriguing characters just through the process of deciding what you wanna be. Feel free to go as wild with it as you like! And I hope you enjoyed reading this incredibly spammy pitch! :D

Oh man. Oh man oh man. Yeah, sign me up. I bought the Numenera pdf a few months ago and have been dying to check it out. Leaning heavily towards a Nano, I'll write up a character after work.
