CYOA : Precious Cargo - To Fight Volcano Monsters, We Built a Volcano Monster
Posts
Like we'd be trusted with the prime minister.
Clearly collecting Canadian government officials is a metagame. If we get a full cabinet that perhaps we'll get a secret ending.
I'll vote C, because there's no option D - Just Walk Away.
Looks like we have a mexican stand off boys, fortunately we are in a nuclear equipped walking rolling battle tank. Also if we throw the PM in the freezer, maybe he counts as a tube for victory conditions?
C. When the nukes falls, everybody wins. Because we are the one with the nukes, and thus everybody.
But to be honest, I think the first guy is more trustworthy as he is not trying to board us with cleverly disguised murderbots (just the regular kind).

This isn't really a choice at all.

Batten the hatches, boys, it's about to get interesting!
Full stop and all systems to high alert. Be ready for any manner of skulduggery.
You'll get a full update after the event, as well as the opportunity to make repairs.
You throttle down, pull down the scope and wait in the dark.
You don't have to wait long.
"Vehicle entering weapons envelope. Geometry and markings are consistent with armored government-issue limousine."
You see the target highlight on the scope. It's traveling alone, headed directly towards you at high speed.
Comms are still down.
What do you do?
a) Keep it cool. Let the limo arrive.
b) ...Something's not right. *Throttle-up and attempt to run away*
c) Man, fuck this. I voted for the other guy anyway. *Open fire on the limo*
Partisan Politics baby.

Ayup, exactly.
C) Blow it away before it gets close and detonates.
This is looking potentially dodgy.
Initiate emergency reverse at flank speed* and see if we can train a gun or three on the limo. See what they do in response. Also, see if the public address system still functions. We might not have radios, but I wonder if the loudspeakers still work.
* we can fix the engines later if this is benign.
Also, we need to get comms back online pronto. This current situation is not tenable.

The center the gun sights on the approaching vehicle. You smile.
"I voted for the other guy,"
You squeeze the trigger. The limo becomes a cartwheeling fireball.
When it comes to a rest, however, you see movement from within the wreckage. Figures slowly crawling out of the flames.
"Message, secure channel one,"
...The comms are back up?
"Captain Baxter, this is Special Agent Armstrong of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service. Our vehicle has been disabled. You are ordered to move to our coordinates; we are escorting the Prime Minister. He will be transferred to your vehicle."
What do you do?
a) "Oh yeah, this is definitely legit." *move to the position of Agent Armstrong*
b) "...I'm pretty sure that hiring robots wearing human faces is against CSIS policy. I think I'll pass." *move along at speed OR head to the coordinates transmitted by Private Kane*

Bang bang kaplow.
Seems legit to me.
Now to find out if both sides are equally bad.
Eliminate what remains of this trap before it can recover enough to threaten other survivors or this tank again, then set course for Private Kane, while being cautious of any other potential trickery.
We know Trojan Horse units are operating in this region now and we should act with extreme caution lest we be caught unawares.
Rendez-vous with Kane.

You pull the trigger eight more times for good measure. Pillars of fire erupt around the wreckage of the limo. You recieve no more transmissions from 'Agent Armstrong'.
"Computer, lock Private Kane's coordinates as NAV-1 and execute survivor sweep,"
"Acknowledged,"
You transmit a rescue beacon, but receive nothing from Kane. You see a column of green signal smoke billowing out from a slit trench near NAV-1, but the trench is barren.
"...He's gone. We took too long. Computer, cancel NAV-1 sweep and resume our course to Fort Fargo,"
"Acknowledged,"
VEHICLE PREPARATION
Current Hand:
Current Resources:
Cards Available for Purchase:
Current Deck:
Tank Layout:
This is your first turn for making preparations; at the end of every event and immediately before every mission, you will get a similar turn.
You have drawn a hand of 5 resources; click the spoiler tag labelled 'Current Resources' to see your current resources. You have a 1:2 chance of drawing Labor, a 1:5 chance of drawing Metal, a 1:10 chance of drawing Munitions or Fuel and a 1:20 chance of drawing Electronics. These resources are used for buying cards to add to your deck; click the spoiler tag labelled 'Cards Available for Purchase' to see what you can buy. Purchased cards are shuffled into your deck and cannot be used until you draw them. You may store resources for use later by placing anywhere that has a 'Storage' value. Any cards not stored will be discarded after you've finished preparations.
You have a hand of 6 cards; click the spoiler tag labelled 'Current Hand' to see your current hand. These cards may be placed on your Titan, fitting onto any position that matches that symbol in the top-right corner of their text box. If a card has a star symbol, it can be placed onto any position not currently occupied by another card. You may also store any cards for use later by placing anywhere that has a 'Storage' value. Any cards not stored will be shuffled back into your deck after you've finished preparations.
You may also repair any damage that has been done to your Titan by spending resources equal to the Repair cost. Damaged spaces cannot have cards places onto them and sometimes confer penalties to the tank (any such penalties will be listed on the damage card).
How do you want to prepare?
Hmmmm, wait. Right under the graphic with Baxter's name on it, I see 'storage 3'. Is that just a basic storage 3 we have associated all the time? That is, can we store stuff there now?
Yes.
