So...how do you use star power (is it still called that?) on drums?
By striking the cowbell attachment, obviously!
I was wondering this myself -- same with the singer, although I guess that can be a button on the mic? I'm thinking maybe a foot pedal for the drummer.

I didn't quite figure it out at PAX, but I believe that the "solo" sections, where you can just hit anything you want, always end with a certain note, and if you hit enough pads during the solo and end on the correct note, then star power is activated.
As best I can tell, you can't manually activate star power, you just get several chances to turn it on in the note chart for each song.
All I want to know is how expensive the drums and the game disc are going to be
Why wont they just tell me
I don't think they know yet. Most (or all) of the Harmonix folks giving interviews and hanging out on the boards are not the guy who decides what to charge.
Maybe that job requires antisocial tendancies and a sadistic streak which makes him unsuitable for PR work.
- Strike the sticks together to make a sounds that activates star power.
- Tip the drums over and scream like a maniac.
after a particularly intense drum portion/drum solo there is a special green jewel (whatever you want to call it) that if you hit it will activate the rock band equivalent of star power for drums
Yeah, I mentioned this last page... I'm really hoping for Help on the Way/Slipknot, or maybe Franklins Tower. If they put in Terrapin Station, they have to give the players the option of replaying that one outro passage over and over until the audience gets pissed off.
Only fellow deadheads will probably get that last part.
So the 360 version of the game comes with a wired controller, but the PS3 version comes with a wireless one. Damn it, guess I'll have to buy seperately? :<
n the latest OXM Podcast, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos confirms that the Xbox 360 guitars for Rock Band are wired in the bundles. There will be wired and wireless versions available for the Xbox 360, but once again, the retail bundles will come with a wired guitar. The PS3 guitars are all wireless. The Xbox 360 bundle will also come with a USB hub for all the peripherals to plug into. On both the Xbox 360 and PS3 version the microphone and drum kit will be wired. Rigopulos says, "The cost of wireless technology on the Microsoft side is higher and to be able to offer those bundles at a price point that would be reasonable for consumers it was necessary ... on the 360 side we are also bundling a hub."
And no, there is no official price yet. It's starting to look like the $20 difference between the Xbox 360 wired and wireless guitar we reported after receiving an internal Game Crazy memo is holding up. So, that's that, the Xbox 360 bundle of Rock Band has a wired guitar and you'll get a little hub to plug everything in. Now comes the question if Microsoft will loosen their grip on the cost of licensing the proprietary wireless tech if the PS3 version of Rock Band sells stronger (comparatively given its lower install base) due to its wireless advantage. In the end, we don't blame Harmonix/EA/MTV for this wired issue -- although it was shady of them to hide it this long -- we're more upset that the consumer is going to get an inferior product due to an obnoxious licensing issue. It's deja vu all over again.
I know that's bad news to some people, but I actually don't prefer wireless or wired one way or the other, for standard controllers or special ones like the guitars.
Some people who've attended the Rock Band Tour have said that Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden and Dani California by Red Hot Chili Peppers are in the game.
Doh. That sucks. Then again, it's not going to affect me either way. I was already planning on buying the drum bundle, and then buying the guitar separately later (especially since the GH2 guitars still work on it). I'm guessing that'll be a popular tactic for fellow 360 owners.
Also, I have never even heard of the bands that were added but, after DLed some stuff they don't seem bad. Maybe some Arcade Fire is possible? No Cars Go would be my vote. I wouldn't mind seeing some Incubus or something too.
I just hope that they still have some big hard hitters to announce later, some real hard and heavy classic rock songs.
I am super psyched about Wave of Mutilation. Probably one of my all time favorite songs, and really fun to sing. Cherub Rock will rock, not your typical belt-it-out rock song, though I suppose that could be an option.

on the wireless/wired issue, i can't actually see it affecting things a great deal. To someone that owns a PS3 or 360, they're going to buy the game for the console they own. Someone who doesn't own either, they're going to be looking mostly at cost of entry, rather than which has wireless. There may be some exceptions to this, but the 360 is cheaper than the PS3, so someone looking to pick up a console for Rock Band, i would think, would opt for the 360.

Guys, guys, the biggest issue here is that AC/DC HAS NOT BEEN ANNOUNCED YET
Chill. A fourth of the on-disc songs haven't been announced yet, and there's still downloadable content. Also, when this game makes truckloads of cash, you bet your ass that AC/DC will be willing to jump on for a slice of the giant money pie.
Also, I really want Bat Out of Hell by Meat Loaf in this game, as weird as it is to say.

Depends on the price difference. and how much less wires means to you.
Well real guitars have wires so wireless is of no consequence to me.
The cost is the main point for me. they are smart to have wired controllers. you will probably lower the cost of the whole thing by 25%. definetly a smart move.

after watching Empire Records last night, and having otherwise no knowledge of AC/DC songs, i think 'If You Want Blood' would go well.
Also, i would assume there'll be relatively little price difference between the PS3 and 360, since that would likely be construed as favouritism. They said wired controllers is a means to cut the costs relative to the PS3 version's wireless, so i guess they're trying to keep things even. That said, since we're taking the price difference between a 360 and PS3 to be about $100, for someone looking to buy a console to play a game, that's quite a big difference if you want your wireless controllers.

Yell "RAAAAAAGGH" and play drums with head, Animal-style.

Rad.
So pretty much the whole song is hard, then you reach the last part and it becomes rapesville. Joy!

I went ahead and threw down some road flares there.
I mean, you'd get dual guitar solos, crazy singing, and the drummer would be sweating blood.
Thank Christ. The Who is a worthy encore.
Of course they could change this game from "Rock Band" to "The Who" and I would be happy, so I'm a bit biased.
