Sony officially announced the PlayStation 4 on February 20, 2013 at a 2 hour event called PlayStation Meeting 2013, which was hosted by Andrew House & held at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

The hardware specifications and interface of the new console were presented by Mark Cerny, who also showed off the newly redesigned DualShock 4 controller.

Gaikai CEO, David Perry, took the stage to talk about the potential their streaming and cloud gaming service can bring to the console.

The Playstation 4 made its debut on Monday June 10 at the Sony E3 2013 press conference where it was revealed that it will cost $399 (US), contain a 500GB hard drive, and be packed with a controller and headset (ear bud + cord mic). The PlayStation 4's "used games strategy" was also discussed, and Sony announced there would be no DRM or protection on used PS4 games. Sony also announced that the PlayStation Plus subscription membership is now required for online gaming.
On August 20th 2013 at Gamescom in Germany, Sony revealed the console would be released November 15th 2013 in the US and November 29th in Europe.

The PS4 will require you to have a PS+ subscription to be able to play games online on your PS4 while still bringing you all the great features you already enjoy

GAIKAI

Sony revealed during its PlayStation 4 announcement that the PS4's cloud service would be provided by Gaikai and that the two companies intend to deliver several cloud-based capabilities on the PS4.

Features include:
Backward Compatibility (PS1, PS2, PS3)
Instant Demos - Play a snippet or a demo of a game instantly- no need to download or install
Remote play through PSVita - the goal to to make every ps4 game playable on the PS Vita)
Stream live gameplay over PSN
Share - simply by pressing the share button you can share videos and screenshots online to multiple service providers
Social gaming - Friends can watch and talk to you as you play or even take over for you if you allow them to do so.

Gaikai integration will roll out sometime in 2014 for the PS4

The Playstation App
The Playstation App is set to provide second screen functionality for some PS4 titles, as well as let you access your PSN profile, check up on friends and trophies, send messages to other people who have the App or to PS4, PS3, and PS Vita users. You'll also be able to make purchases using the App and remotely download it, and also use your smartphone or tablet to turn your console on and off or as a keyboard for typing.

The Playstation App hits North America on November 13 and Europe on November 22 and is available for Android and IOS phones and tablets.

Good job with the OP, that's a nice way of breaking down the games and what they are (exclusive, PlayStation platform exclusive, etc.). Only issue is that IGN indie list, as they have a bunch of Sony published games listed, by ah well.

So apparently the PS Nation podcast mentioned that Journey's coming to the PS4. I've no clue if it's true or not but I'd expect it to happen sometime next year anyway.

Do I buy Assassin's Creed IV tonight, or wait for the PS4 launch?

Pros of buying it tonight
- I get to play it two and a half weeks early
- The place I'm getting it at knocks $5 off the price of all new games, so in reality it's only gonna cost me $5 to upgrade to the PS4 version
- I'll be able to have a test case to see the difference between a cross-gen game
- Double Trophies!

Pros of buying it in two weeks
- Still technically $5 less
- THAT BLUE CASE! I REALLY LIKE PS4 CASES YOU GUYS

Before GAF died over the rumors one of the insiders was saying that in addition to the Xbone OS also the PS4 OS is crashing a lot. Hopefully they can get that sorted out for release.

It was reported that this was not really the case later in the thread, at least from what I saw. Not to say Sony won't have any problems come launch, but that it was not crashing a lot and that the problems were minimal.

I still want to get it at launch, are there any chances to get it from a store during release night, or still get a preorder anywhere? Obviously I don't want to pay double what the console is worth, I'm just wondering if I waited too long...

You might want to look into where your nearest Sony Store is. I'm in Europe so the situation is a bit different, but everywhere was sold out two months out except the Sony Store where I walked in off the street and was number 26 on a list of 50 guaranteed systems for that particular store.

Sometimes people just overlook the obvious.

Both Sony and Microsoft are holding back stock for the holiday. Initial pre-order batches are gone, but you have a chance to get lucky in the store between launch and Christmas.

I was more referring to games like Injustice or LEGO Marvel. I just can't imagine they'll print many copies of those games but I dunno, there'll probably be plenty of those as well.
