Laptop Has No Sound...Sometimes...

So I have a Dell XPS M140 laptop (yes yes i know i know but i got a good deal and it does what i need). Anyways, recently i noticed that there's no sound coming out of it...no system sounds, no sound when i'm on youtube or myspace, etc...

BUT it does play music/sound when i load any media player (iTunes, WMP, Foobar, etc). For some reason, the sound icon on the task bar is not there. I've checked all volume bars and everything, they're all up, nothing's muted, and all my drivers are up to date. Also the buttons on the laptop that control the sound don't work either...but i can still play songs, videos, etc.

Anyone know how I can fix this? It's kind of irritating.

The only thing that i've done recently to the computer is I just got a Zune from my GF and i installed the Zune Marketplace on the laptop. Help!
