Welcome to Los Santos, Home of the American Dream. It's the heart of our imagination. Where we can be who we what to be. That blonde slut up on that pole. I can make her American's next Sweetheart. Did it to Poppy Mitchell. That coked out gang banger over there, that's our next Mayor if I sell his story right. It's all about Perceptive. All you need to survive in this town is two things, a drive and a gun. Don't be afraid to use both. But remember, there is always going to be someone behind you, someone with that same drive and motivation as you. And if, or should I say, when you screw up, He's going to stomp on you. Push you back into the dirty streets. And you'll be another wash up in the American Dream, alone and looking for your place again. Until then, you'll live like a king. Or die like one if you're lucky.

This is a d20 Modern game set in the GTA V universe a few months after the main game. I'm going to try to not spoil anything from the game so mostly you will be dealing with original characters. Or not. You will be playing no named criminals, gang bangers, small time thieves, and other psychopaths in an original story about lives in San Andreas. We may even one day go to Liberty City or Vice City if the story heads that way. For the most part, I'm letting these be sandbox style of a game. You create some characters, their backgrounds, and after the intro scene, its up to you. I'll run with what you guys choose to do, and once and a while drop something on your laps from some of the consequences you have gained.

Character Creation
1st Level characters, no cross-class/multiclasses. I'd like to see people roll for their stats, just for the hell of it, but you can use the Planned Generation or Standard Score Package if you don't want to. Everyone can get Criminal as a starting occupation plus one more that fits your character. Or you can take Criminal twice if that's all you are. Don't worry about Wealth and Equipment. After that, I need a background story of your life on the wrong side of the law. What did you do? Who do you know? Who might hate you? What groups (if any) do you belong to? From here, I'll set up the story.

One thing I'm houseruling just because I liked in Marvel Heroics is Milestones. Basically, with your characters, I'd like you to create at least 3 milestones, or goals for your character. Be creative. Maybe he's been robbing liquor stores but wants to get big one day. His short term goal could be "Pull a big job with a real crew". But why does he want to the money? Maybe he wants to be a rapper. The money is for studio time. His mid term goal could be "Create a hip-hop album and be famous." Then after that? Maybe one day he wants own his own record company. So his Long Term Goal is "Own my own Record Company". Each milestone will net you an instant level up. Milestones can change at any point of the game. Maybe instead of being a rapper, the above character decides that he likes pulling heist. The mid term goal could change to "Pull the Big One" or if the FIB gets hot on his trail "Clear my record."

Another houserule is that we aren't using the normal game's version of wealth. To help convey the idea of chasing the American Dream, we are dealing with real money and not the Wealth system. If you buy things from a store, I'm going to use the prices from this site for guns. Most likely they will be the Fair Condition prices. Car Prices, if you buy them, will be the prices from the online game.

I'm picking 4 people with the best stories. I'll leave the sign ups open for a week.

Daddy was born in Grapeseed, as was his daddy, and his daddy, and for all I know his old man sprung up outta the ground like the corn. Whatever. Corn might keep the farm afloat, but farming is boring. Lucky for me, Daddy collects guns. And cars. And he doesn't mind when I take either out for a spin.

Now, he doesn't much like it when I bring 'em back broke. And, well heck, when you drive like I do, sometimes things get broke. So learnin' to fix bikes, cars... and, OK, that crop duster that one time... well more than once... there was incentive.

    Where was I?

    Cars!

Daddy likes the muscle cars, which, duh, all his redneck friends do, too, but they're ugly old beat up things. My cars need power, but they also need to be cute. Daddy doesn't do cute, and the farm doesn't have that much extra money. But people on the Internet love them some cute girls, and it turns out they're more than happy to watch me get up to all manner of trouble with the local sheriff, drivin' the way I do. So I got a dashboard cam... and a rear-view cam... and a couple others stashed around the town. I post videos up on LifeInvader page, set 'em to some music, and ... LifeInvader money! It's too easy.

So I have some money for the cars I want, but not enough, and, well, I'm cute and I drive fast.

    Gimme.

I'll have to wait until I get home and take a look at the d20 modern book before I can post a character concept. Thinking something like a burnout turned dealer/manufacturer out of Grapeseed or Paleto Bay.

    1) Get the Lost MC off my ass for good. Make peace, buy them off, or you know, whatever happens happens...
    2) Set myself as the premier supplier of psychedelia in San Andreas. I'm talking real money here. Like fucking Vinewood money, man.
    3) Ruin Richard. 1%er corporate leeches like him are what make LS such such a vapid shithole. Plus, he's turned mom into this total psycho. You can't disappear me that easy dick.

Here's a quick and dirty character.

Roger Weber is a Vespucci Beach native who was content to deal dimebags, get stoned, and trip balls out in Blaine County, up until mom's new husband Richard (banker CEO type) shipped him off and out of sight to uni in Las Venturas with a full ride (nice of him, huh). That lasted all of a few semesters. Roger was smart enough to breeze through high school without giving it much attention and although a few of his courses were maybe getting interesting, the distractions of partying with clientele eager to give up their tuition checks for a bag of 'college experiences' proved too much.

He eventually dropped uni entirely and out of a rented house in Grapeseed began cooking and growing the fun stuff himself. People made it seem like this shit was hard to get a hold of, but all it took was a few eyefind searches for instructions and recipes, maybe an order from overseas or a trip to the hardware store, and boom. Shrooms, dmt, acid, weed, molly, and maybe little crystal here and there, Roger started supplying himself and pulling in some real cash selling to kids back at uni as well as a broadening selection of customers back home in LS.

It was easy to keep a low profile before, but big money meant big attention. Lost MC and smaller time families still had pull up in Blaine County and after sniffing out Roger's homegrown op, tried to squeeze him out. A guy's got to protect his piece though, and so a web search later, helped with a little fertilizer, gasoline, and copper wires, he found a temporary (and loud) solution to his problems. Remnants of the Lost were still out there though (minus a cookhouse), so Roger thought it best to relocate back to LS in Mirror Park to lay low. Bad news if the LMC ever track him down, and probably worse news if his folks ever caught wind he'd dropped out.

Have you ever heard of Cosmodyne Securities? Of course you have, what sort of man with an eye for money hasn't heard of them. A firm with quite the reputation for turning pennies into gold bars. Now I know what you're thinking, big shots like them only the real high rollers earn with them. Well sir, I can tell you that's not the case.

As long as you have an account with them, they'll handle your investment no matter how small. But looking at you, I'll bet you've quite the roll. I'll bet you probably have a Surano in your driveway...no make that two! No? Why I think you deserve one! And Cosmodyne can help make that dream come true.

All you need to do is fill out this application... Oh no sir, I don't need your credit card number or any such thing. You're right not to tell me, after all I'm just a stranger. Goodness knows you can't just trust anyone who just walks up to you these days. Besides as an accredited representative I would never ask you to reveal such sensitive information. Here, let me give you my business card.

Now then, all you need to do is fill out your name and address over here. Just an optional questionnaire, just to give the bean-counters something to do if you know what I mean. Here use my pen to...there we go sir....and fill out this section....oh no need to fill out that part. That's part's for me. Now sign right here just to verify...and we're done sir! Once I get this sheet in to my boss, you can expect a call within a week or two. My name? Why it's Annie...and yes it certainly was a pleasure chatting with you... Have a nice day and I hope we can expect your business in the future !

    Jesus those are some rolls.

  • Grunt's GhostsGrunt's Ghosts Registered User regular
So, that's the gist. And here's the relevant info:

GG, for growing/producing non-medicinal drugs I'm assuming I'd be working off the Craft: Chemical skill rather than Pharmaceutical. What do you think?

Yeah. Pharmaceuticals would seem to be more for Rx drugs like Triple Cs, Ambien, Oxycotton, ect.

@jdarksun If you feel those 7s are too low you may reroll them. I'd hate for you to be that badly behind when the only other low score is one of Everyman's 9s.

  • jdarksunjdarksun Struggler CORegistered User regular

Ok, I'm guessing I'm not getting more interest here so what I need from you guys:

@jdarksun and @The Everyman write up some Milestones. At least 3 goals your character wants to achieve during the game. Make them like steps. Short, 5 year plan, Retirement kinda of deal. If you want to set it up so you think you'll hit them at 5th, 10th, and 15th level that's fine. Its progression of your character RP wise.

@Kirindal Are you still interested? I'll need a character soon.

    "Appearances are Everything"
    1) Get my own car

If its not too late, For Your Consideration:

    Vincent Gleeson, 23, Actor

Vince is an actor. At least that's what he tells people. Mostly he is a terrible waiter with a penchant for picking up Vinewood skanks and snorting coke off their breasts. Sure he auditions now and then but rarely lands anything. As a former child star (in kids TV) Vince is actually a decent actor, but he's terrible at the business of acting. His last paying gig was a mentos commercial. His highlight was playing a throw away suspect in a TV crime drama and his most well paid gig was the faceless abs and cock in a fading starlets sex tape.

Vince is fit and quite handsome, which charm to spare. If he actually applied himself he could be a star. But too many years as a spoiled child star, his mother/manager fucking off to Tahiti with most of his money 8 years ago, an agent who scores more drugs than gigs and plain old bad luck have left Vince in a jam. He owes money to the wrong people and knows he needs to turn his life around. Whatever direction that's going to take, Vince doesn't know, but Vince's only real assets are his eyes, smile and his mouth.

    Milestones:
    1) Get out of Debt
    2) Get a real job
    3) Get off the drugs

    Started from the Bottom

Bolingbroke Penitentiary had once been an all-mens prison until early 2000s when budget cut caused them to allow their first female prisoners there. While the two were normally separated, it wasn't always the case. Such as yard duty. Roger looks around at the group he is stuck with. Some child TV star who was busted buying prostitutes, a con-artist who was easy to the eyes, locked up for conning a local politician out of campaign money with her ponzi scam, and some LifeInvader attention whore who thought that stealing a helicopter would be as easy as stealing a car. Not that he was much better. After years of selling drugs to college students, he got busted during his biggest deal, which happen to be a FIB sting. And of course the wheeze, creepy guy who must have been a child molester or something. All Roger knew about him was his prison name was "Twitch" and he had some strange power in the population.

"This isn't a time to daydream, Weber." Guardman Smith says. Former Marine judging by the guy's stance. Like his step-dad. That asshole must have heard and tipped off the FIB. That's the only way he got busted, Roger thinks. "And you, Stick-shift. I wouldn't look outside that fence very long if I was you. Its going to be a long time before you drive a toy car, much less a real one."

  • jdarksunjdarksun Struggler CORegistered User regular
"Pff, you say that now. I bet my views are exploding, that footage was great. Daddy isn't gonna let me rot in here. I'll be out before you know it. Rodney King! Rodney King!"

  • The EverymanThe Everyman Registered User regular
"Hey, dude," Roger murmurs, throwing the mouthy chick a wary eye. "Private Power-trip here isn't your friend. Just shut up and do your work, you're not helping your case, man."

Easier said than done. It was taking every ounce of Roger's patience not to mouth off and keep his head down and eyes forward. Day whatever of this impromptu tolerance break was starting to fuck with his mood. Better to redirect his irritation to another inmate and away from this Smith jerkoff.

  • KirindalKirindal Registered User regular
Esther was paying the other two no mind, there were more important things to worry about. Like finding out who had ran to the blue boys to squeal her out. The plan was flawless, she had done her homework. The little kitten had too much pride to admit to being suckered like a two bit child. Besides, she had only skimmed only a cup from his war chest. It was probably that friend of his, he had never trusted her while Esther was working the office over. When she got out...

    'Another day...another dime.'

  • SteelhawkSteelhawk Registered User regular
Vince was cranky. Who knew they made lady cops that hot? And it was patently unfair that she was dressed like a prostitute and standing on a street corner looking like she was selling sex. God damn it, he needed a better lawyer. Did that British guy with the super hot wife get jail time for picking up that nasty whore on the street? No! Because he had a good lawyer.

Fuck it, maybe the Guard who was talking to those two girls had some idea of when he was getting out of here. Wait a minute...there were two girls over there.

"Hi, I'm Vince. And I didn't do it. Whatever it was, and I'm sure you didn't either."

'Of course not, all of us are innocent as lambs.' Esther rolled her eyes even as she spoke. 'So what aren't you in for, Mister Innocent?'

Even Smith got into the conversation. "Everyone knows you don't go to Del Perro to pick up hookers. You go to East LS just off the Elysinn Fields Freeway. Sure they aren't as pretty, but you ain't going to see no lady cop there." he looks around. "Or so I've heard."

Roger let his yard work carry him away from the group. He wasn't, like, withdrawing or anything, but he definitely was brewing a wicked migraine and the sound of their chatter hurt behind his temples. Until that creepy dude piped up with something that caught Rog's attention.

    Huh.

Was it even possible? To do something so monumentally stupid as try to escape? I mean, get caught and you're double-fiucked. How much time did he have left in here, anyway? It hardly seemed worth, but... "Yeah? So, what's your plan then dude?" he asked Lester shortly, before his thoughts drifted elsewhere.

Had anyone even successfully escaped from Bolingbroke? Had anyone tried? Roger figured he would have read something online about it if it happened recently.

The easiest way trough a wall was to knock it down, but uhh, maybe not so discrete. Roger knew yard duty was the shit job to get, but maybe between the laundry, electrical, kitchen, or janitorial departments he could come up with at something that could do the job. Or, at least 'cause enough chaos to be a distraction.

Roger couldn't think of anyone who had broken out before. Nor could he think of anyone who had tried, so maybe it wasn't so much that it couldn't be done as it hadn't been done. The gears in Roger's head began to turn as he thought of the dozens of ways he could built a bomb. The basic cleaning supplies could be wiped up from the cleaning closet. Hell, doing yard work could score him fertilizer needed for a nice explosion. There were many ways he could do this...

Sure he could...and while he was at it maybe he could make money just fall out of the sky. Esther knew a cheesy scam when it poked up its nose. Probably get anyone's fool ass shot off by the guards in the attempt. Either it was going to be that or more prison time if she was lucky and Esther wasn't going to bet pennies even on those odds.

But still, she supposed it wouldn't hurt to listen to this scheme. There could be opportunity in this pile if she could figure out how to twist it. For one thing, Esther would get her slice even if it was on the backs of anyone else. Esther leaned in a bit closer while making half-hearted attempts at the work they had been assigned. This should be good...

"Woah man. Picking up a hooker is one thing, breaking the fuck out of jail is entirely another. My agent isn't good enough to get me out that kind of shit. Fuck, my agent isn't any good period.

Vince thought about it some more and just could not find the upshot of breaking of out jail. Still, there could be some opportunities in the future with these crazy bastards. And he really did think stealing a helicopter would be fun.

"Sigh. Look, I ain't a rat so don't worry about that. But maybe I can help you out. I can get you guys a window to make your move. Distract some guards, cause a riot, whatever you need. Just as long as you remember your new friend Vinny when I get outta here in a few days. Deal?"

Daisy propped her feet up, not making any pretense at looking busy. "OK creepy uncle Lester, you've got my attention. Any chance we can get this on video? My viewers would eat it up." The girl's eyes gleamed, already thinking of the monetization and merchandising opportunities.

Lester glances over at Smith briefly before continuing. "That depends on how you want to get out. The first idea I have is to cause a riot." Lester nods towards the rec field. "As you know, this place houses pretty much all the gangs in San Andreas. And word is that recently the Families and The Ballas are at a cease fire. But that won't last long. Even in here, the gangs are almost ready to explode. If we can tip the scales just a bit, say... beat up one gang member and leave the other gangsters' calling card, we could easy start a fight. Then as the guards are handling the gangs, we slip out in the chaos and steal a car."

Smith started yelling into his radio. "What? No. I got $200 on Rodriguez in the third round."

Lester starts talking again. "The last one is more... Mr. Weber's kind of plan. I got a friend on the outside, a pilot. He's a bit out there but who isn't in Los Santos? Hehehe." When no one laughed with him, Lester continued. "Ok, well. Trevor wants a Buzzard. Lucky for us, Bolingbroke has one on the helipad." And as if on cue, the Buzzard flies over the group towards the helipad. "He's planning on charging the back gate and we would be clearing the path for him. There are two guard towers that need to be cleared out or destroyed before he gets here. Then Cell Block D guards need to be taken down as they will be the first ones to come towards Trevor. That's Mrs. Delfino and Mrs. May's cell block. Then after Trevor goes through there, he'll come up on the main building. Mr. Weber, if you can rig up a way to blow the garage doors, then we all follow Trevor up to helipad and escape."

Lester looked at Vince. "You can leave with us, Mr. Gleeson. Vinewood stars, even the worst of them, can get out of anything. Plus, imagine the kind of publicity you would get for pulling something like this. You could fire your agent, pick up a new one for nothing and be back in the business. Bad publicity is good publicity."

"And if you got a better plan, I'm all ears."
