Hey, when does hunkering down and attempting to work through an impenetrable games backlog at the expense of other activities become a serious psychological issue?

About five minutes after you ask that question.

Coincidentally, the nice people in white coats are five minutes away.

Welp, figured I'd play Minerva's Den but despite several attempts to play Bioshock 2 and getting nothing (and verifying the integrity of the game cache) I decided to redownload the game. Well in the meantime I'll play some Hitman Absolution in the meantime and just alt tab out and hit the resume on the download.

Except that does not seem to work anymore.

...Alright. So what witchcraft must I perform to get this non optimal but very easy solution working again?

Right click on Hitman Absolution, pick Properties. Check the "Allow Steam to download other updates while this game is running" option. Launch Hitman while Bioshock is downloading. It should just keep downloading while you play, no alt-tabbing required.

Do you have to do that for every game you want to play while downloading stuff? Is there an option to automatically let things download while you play?

It seems to be on a "per game" basis only. I don't think that's too bad since I just pop the option on real quick before I boot up whatever I'm going to play.

Little from column A, little from column B. You schedule weekly classes to train up various skills, spend weekends doing various activities that adjust your mood (which affect your skillup rates). Along the way you have events and conversations that check your skills, and occasionally you make a decision about something; from seemingly innocuous stuff like court etiquette and attending a party, to more visibly dramatic things like sentencing accused criminals and conducting war. The anime aesthetic is consistent, but the plot and text descriptions do paint a much darker picture.

Apparently I suck at this sort of thing, but I'm of the opinion that some of these problems require Kings Quest V levels of foresight not to fuck up. That said, a playthrough doesn't take very long, so dying is not a huge setback; indeed, from the store page it's sort of expected.

The game defaults to showing you what skill checks you passed/failed, which makes it usually fairly simple to get past something the second time.

Oh they're doable eventually, but short of being lucky you basically have to send little girls through layers of deathtraps until one of them finally gets through. Anybody that figured out the

Notable is probably Gunman Clive but man there is some goofy looking stuff seeping in there. Didn't Clang essentially just get cancelled? As usual includes some great looking kickstarters that probably didn't need to be greenlit like Paradise Lost and Liege.

At this point I think my only standout of "Why no Greenlight Valve?!" is probably Driftmoon. At least of games that have been fully released.

You may need to be in the Beta client. I run the Steam Beta client all the time and have never had any issues (beyond what's typical for Steam). You need to go to Steam > Settings, then on the Account tab, change your Beta Participation to "Steam Beta Update". This lets you get some of the new features a little earlier.

Yeah, just finding it isn't easy. I only managed that because attempt #4 went intrigue/magic/horseys, and only because I knew partly where to look from other comments.
Far as I know, it only comes up if you avoid the civil war while having the girl stay at your castle. I think there are a couple ways to avoid it; I got it by killing Lucille on Week 17 (preventing bandits from spawning on the way to the party) followed by choosing to spy on the nobles the following week. This brings up an option to assassinate one of the leaders of the civil war. Then you'll get the option to go exploring.

As for the forest itself, it was a rather sharp "fuck you" moment since I'd maxed out magic and lore. Of course it's dodgy as hell going in, but the correct skill is
herbs. I'm sorry, the answer was herbs, so I'm afraid you and your friend don't get to go home. But hey, we've got some lovely tentacle death as a consolation prize!

Sadly, horses might have been important in the escape, but so far as I know there's no other way through it.

You could just go straight disney princess. You'll probably die. I dont know if you can survive that way.

There are plenty of events where looking regal is enough to make people listen though.

    Terraria - @SoundsPlush
    Magic 2014 - @TreadLife

Make sure to add me on Steam if you haven't yet so I can gift your winnings! Afterwards go on steam gifts and check that you received your gift so I can start new give aways.

Thanks everyone for participating in my Extra-Life left over give away specials. Just wanted to say that Extra-Life is still accepting donations until November 30th, so if you can spare a couple bucks and want to make HiT BiT remake my sig again that would be awesome. :D

Overall Extra-Life has currently rose nearly $4 Million total. I feel like with your help I've definitely done by part by currently raising over $1950. Other than that this year was a ginormous success and I'm sure next year will be even bigger.

Be on the lookout for the last two giveaways coming soon, and thanks again for being the best community on the internet.

Oh and someone broke news but my birthday is this Sunday. So be on the lookout for something big to be given away that day too.

I've read pretty great things about the rhythm game Bollywood Wannabe too

Indian is insanely populated compared to most developing and developed nations
an insane portion of their population works with tech
a large number of them have set up families in economies that have personal computers and consoles and are in a position to buy them and games

    Why aren't there more games
    set in india
    use Hindu mythology
    use Hindu heroes
    being developed in India

Don't give me an excuse about there not being a market because the internet will buy anything! ANYTHING!

So Long Live the Queen is apparently not about being so a princess so pretty that others nations are forced to kneel before you, but since kind of anime Machiavellian struggle?

I'm not sure if I want to know the truth.

Anybody that figured out the
    forest adventure
in one go, I'm asking them for investment advice.

I haven't been able to start that yet.
If it's where I think it is, I keep having to send the green-haired girl home, either as a useless gesture of goodwill or as a bargaining chip. Presumably there's something else I need in order to not have that war or something.

With what you gave me, I beat it.
After herbs, it's run or die. 50-70 running is enough for that part. Then you need horses, or you're forced to choose whether to leave your companion behind... not leaving her behind is a dance check, pass or die.

I wasn't able to get enough points into things after that to survive until coronation, but... oh well. I now know additional requirements for the music win.

    That's just hilarious.

It makes sense in context. Like so much of this game.

    On that note:

    *flash*
    "I decline."

    Awesome scene.

Hot damn, I am going to have to buy Bollywood Wannabe when that gets released.

Edit: Holy shit is what 99 Spirits doing lame. They've got an "Artbook and Soundtrack pack" listing, that is listed first on the game's page, and is the same price as the game, but does not include the game. Why would you do that? How does that benefit you? Do you really think people are going to buy the wrong back, then just shrug and buy the game as well?

Just sent a link to the greenlight page for Bollywood Wannabe to my indian sister in law (yes, my nieces are cute), and received a reply composed of screaming and jubilation.

Huh, just noticed that whoever won my Shadow Warrior giveaway from a month ago never accepted the gift I sent them for it, since it's still sitting in my inventory. Weird.
