    I'd say 12. It's not a particularly complex plot in-and-of itself, it only becomes confusing if you ask the epistemological questions like "where did these weird god things come from."

    Aside from the last battle I didn't really have any problem understanding FF XIII,

    I could follow XII just fine. XIII was just fine too, up until the last hour or so, where yeah - things got a little crazy.

    For non FF? Xenoblade is not only easy to follow, but wonderfully executed.

    X-2, though it didn't help that at that point Square had traded plot for obfuscation; ie the game was about concealing the story rather then show/telling. X had about a half-dose of that, imo.
