I have a Motorola Razr Maxx HD, if it matters. It is a Verizon phone (an exclusive I think), if THAT makes a difference. Also, while it is not the case that price is no object, it is the case that I'd be willing to pay quite heavily for some of this, and I'm also happy to root or jailbreak the phone, although good instructions would be nice.
What I'm hoping for is something that lets me do several things. Some of these are included natively, but I'd rather not have to fiddle with more than one app if I can avoid it. If not, que sera sera.
Anyway, what I'm hoping for:
The ability to set caller IDs per prefix. I'm hoping to be able to set it such that numbers of the form 312-555-XXXX or 555-6XXX pop the same name. As with bank or large doctors office, or anyone else with an older PBX or cheap telco outgoing hunt
The ability to for some but not all callers to ID themselves before being passed, specifically so that I can only permit calls from selected area codes through without challenge; there are a select number of places people I know or care about live, and all the rest are bullshit; telemarketers from India trying to sell me Viagra or pestering me again and again and again about a 3 month contract "near me" in Duluth.
A google voice widget that does that would be just as good, btw.
Those are the big ones, for me. The very nice to have list is:
The ability to have ring profiles that are related to location -- a more sophisticated version of the existing bluetooth and auto related settings.
The ability to set caller/address profiles that adjust who can get through to me based on time of day.
The basic idea is I would very much like to be able to control who can reach me <i>no matter what</i> vs. who is restricted vs. who is challenged vs. who simply cannot reach me directly.
I suspect this doesn't exist, but it seems worth investigating. God knows all of these seem like obvious features to want in a phone as open as the droid. If I have to, I will teach myself to code for the damn platform and do it myself, although that will take for-fucking-ever as I'm a network engineer and a *nix power user; I don't know how to code beyond scripting and really sophisticated grep-awk-sed skills and the like. (I am TOTALLY the dude in
this XKCD)
Thanks!
