Orb 2.0

I don't think I've started any threads on these boards, despite having been around a long ass time. Anyway, if this is posted improperly please forgive me.

Anyhow, I remember Tycho posting about Orb 2.0 not too long ago. I installed it, dinked around a bit, but then just sort of forgot about it for a while. The last several days I've really had a desire to get various non-WMV files playing on my TV and streaming through Orb to the 360 seemed like a good way to do it. Here's what I have to work with:

A 27" tube TV w/ component, s-video, and composite imputs
An Xbox 360
A Wii
A laptop with XP
A couple external hard drives

If there's another, non-Orb, way to get these videos to the TV I'd be happy to hear it, but based on what research I've done it seems to me that Orb is probably the way to go. Again, if there's some cheap piece of hardware that would solve my troubles I'd be more than willing to do that, but I can't currently afford a new computer or TV.

If Orb is the solution I'm going to have to work with, I've got a problem, namely that I can't make the thing work with my 360. Maybe I've missed a key walkthrough for setting the program up, but it seems like it's just supposed to work and really really doesn't for me. I've disconnected the 360 from the computer, disabled Windows Media Connect, but when I go to Media-->Videos-->Computer it still shows no videos available.

I'm sure I'm missing something basic here, but whatever it is I am defininitely missing something.

Not real familiar with Orb but I hear Tversity works well for this and is fairly simple to set up. (Note, I have never personally done it, this is 'word of mouth') Check it out here:

You can't get it to work wit your 360? You do realize it works for the Wii right. For music and pictures I find it to work well, and it works right over your wireless network. For movies, it'a bit meh, because all the streaming must first be converted to a Wii compatible flash player which like I said is great for music and the like, awful for watching movies, not so bad for tv shows.

Do you have a firewall up? Is the PNP options checked on the Orb config screen? I have had it working with my 360 and PC and noticed that when I had my firewall up or the PNP unchecked it wouldn't work.

If you get Windows Vista, you can easily stream content from your PC to your 360 wirelessly. I think XP Media Center Edition can do the same thing, but I'm not sure. In any case, Orb on your Wii works just fine. I don't think you can access Orb from your 360, but from your Wii just fire up the browser (Opera?) and navigate to mycast.orb.com. It should work without any hitches; I have a friend who does this with no problems.
