Reccomend me a quality ipad case/cover/stand.

Per the title, I need to buy a nice ipad cover for a family member as a gift. There are a lot to choose from and I was hoping for recommendations from personal use. What covers do you use? How do you use them in day to day, and what would you recommend?

The person receiving the case uses his ipad primarily for news, television, and reading.

A couple here - my gf uses a Targus Versavu for hers. She watches a lot of Netflix, HBO Go, etc. so the stand thing comes in handy (also being able to rotate orientation without taking it out of the case seems to be a plus). She likes it enough that she got the same version when she got her last new iPad. It seems pretty tough and well-padded too, for all the banging around in her purse that it does.

I don't use a case in the traditional sense, because I don't like the bulkiness. Rather, I use a combination of a translucent acrylic Belkin Snap Shield for the back and a black, magnetic, Apple cover for the front. I almost always find myself with the front cover popped off when I'm at home just to get it out of the way. I like the hard snap shield on the back because it's fairly unobtrusive/low profile but protects the back from scratching and stuff on my tile table/counters. But I don't watch alot of video, mostly reading and web browsing, so the lack of stand isn't a concern. Anyway, just another option.

I use a Belkin 'Stripe Tab Cover' for iPad air (similar cases are around for other models, my friend bought a galaxy tab version after seeing mine which was basically identical). I really like it, I think it looks good and somewhat professional, it protects the iPad well and can be folded multiple ways for videos or comfortable holding. I use the front cover folded flat back against when I'm using it as a reference when standing up, half-folded behind to give something substantial to hold when gaming (seems more comfortable to my hands like that), and in the standing pegs when watching a video or when typing.

If you're watching videos regularly I'd say being able to act as a stand is a mandatory feature in a case.

This Targus VersaVu rotating ipad case saved my device from all damage, and I do mean there was absolutely no damage to the ipad, after I drove away with it still sitting on the hood of my car.

At about 25mph I saw a black blur leap off the hood and whip past my window. I stopped the car because I thought I'd hit something or that some kid had thrown something at the car, and then I saw my ipad laying in the street behind me. The case was shredded from the asphalt but the ipad was completely unharmed.

Depending on your budget I've heard great things about Oberon cases. They're pricey though.
