It's about time to wrap things up for 2013, only another two-ish, so lets get to talking about what happened this year on the internet and decide on what we will remember most.

Snowden comes to mind and his big NSA document leak. For internet happenings that one is pretty epic.

What else?

Wil Wheaton's Tabletop Youtube show got my family playing board games again. Tabletop day was a huge success for game stores. It may even help keep some open (rampant speculation).

e: Hrm, first episode in 2012. Well there's always Tabletop Day... does that count as an internet thing?

Also the forced Google+ integration, the MCN thing, allowing people to post entire books or screenplays as comments, allowing people to post links to porn/viruses as comments, and generally just being terrible.

I think 2013 should go to the Harlem Shake.

That feels like years ago but apparently is was just in February.

Or the fact that it asks me if I want to use my real name every other day! No google, for the 20th time, BYToady is fine.

Hmmm, political events aside, the Google+ integration with YouTube was a pretty big story. Within our realm of interests (I assume) Microsoft's meltdown in the face of criticism of their DRM plans was pretty major and has probably granted Sony a resounding success in their little launch window war. From an entertainment perspective, the VGX show was so surreal and bad I think it begs a mention.

Yeah, its probably a toss-up between the Xbox One backlash, and the Google+ backlash.

well the whole "NSA leaks" thing was pretty huge. I would say more people are aware of that anyways.

The UK blocking porn by default? Along with taking action against torrent sites (several big name ones were blocked this year).

Personally my internet event of The year was the drawing thread in the holiday forum over Christmas here. I was in stitches.

Youtube started forcing people to use G+ if they wanted to comment, that is what started the riot.

Just remembered the Simcity fiasco was this year too, so that's also a contender. Ironically I was actually having a lot of fun with it for the two hours it took me to realize that it was just a lot of pretty window dressing surrounding a fundamentally broken game.

I guess ACA has been here awhile, but the whole rollout thing was pretty huge.

Oh yeah, that one was up there, that gets the award for worst launch of the year that got the most press.

I think the Simcity fiasco and the Xbox One drama can be rolled into one event, and that being the fact that this year a whole lot more attention was drawn to whether we even want an always-online future.

And the 'one sign in' bullshit where you can't use Gtalk without it signing you into Gmail, Youtube, etc.

    Obvious answers:

Serious Contenders: The ACA Rollout, Snowden/NSA, Government Shutdown
Funny Contenders: Doge pics, Harlem Shake
    Music: Blurred Lines, Thrift Shop
Vidjagames: Xbox DRM Debacle, SimCity Debacle, Battlefield 4 Debacle.

... I think the Doge wins.

You mean the "I'm gonna keep watching Youtube videos while bitching in the comments a lot" riot of 2013?

I wonder if this should go under "year of the internet vigilante" I know it's nothing new but it seems we had a lot of it. The boston bombings, Spike Lee tweeting George Martins (incorrect) address, want to say there was another address of a high profile defendant tweeted. Just last night supposedly a swat team was at phantomlords house after someone on twitch called in a hostage situation. I'm sure I'm missing some, just seems like there was a lot of internet vigilantes this year that messed with innocent peoples lives.
