I'm pretty sure this pancit was enough to feed two, but it was so good I ate it all. Ugghhh. Well I had a smoothie for breakfast so I'm still being healthy.

Man I better mark off 30 minutes in my schedule tomorrow morning for a big mornin' dump.

I love dungeons, teamwork in mmos.

The problem is of course that that's expensive content and that is a nightmare to balance (balancing vs the weakest member ( statwise, buildwise, skillwise / degree of teamwork / latency / composition) makes it boringly easy, but anything above it and it can become frustrating very fast)

APB did an open beta before launch.

It was one of the biggest wtfs in games.

That game is top tier failing to live up to hype. Spore / SimCity class.

The aftermath (vicious pay-to-win with loads of cheating) is a bonus

    did anyone play firefall

    I did for a bit

    it's pretty damn dull

I realized one thing that would make it way better

see there's all this wilderness between the outposts and cities and such

    make that wilderness dangerous

make moving through it tense as shit as you're on the lookout for dangerous beasts

make going into it an ordeal you prepare for

not just somewhere I hold the w key

in Freelancer I always liked exploring

there are wrecks with codename weapons - special, rare, good guns, sought after as much for their rarity as their quality

and especially in the largest mod still going, finding them can be in very remote and very dangerous places

after travelling beyond House space, beyond human space, and into stranger and stranger places, each system a nail-biting experience where survival requires attention, and lots of it, because toto, this sure ain't kansas no more, and this radiation is eating away at your systems and you're running out of nanobots to fix them, and holy fuck I don't even know what that is save for big and hostile fuuuck

after returning from to civilized space, and to where there are players, I breathe easier

firefall could have had this, but the makers were cowards.

I like minecraft for the fact that no matter how big and safe my castle gets I can always tool up for an expedition and just take off into the unknown and have to make it with what I've got

or into hell, for that matter

and then I can come back home again

minecraft's got a bit of that "difficult in the wrong way" thing going on where what'll get me on a trip is something kind of dumb like stumbling into a creeper and everything else is cake, but still

I have fond memories of the early days of dayz

entering a server, waiting ten minutes, making dinner, eating dinner, having a cup of coffee, is it loaded yet? nope

but the main thing was how stupid the reasons for some of the best moments we had

one of the first great moments was at the airfield and I was playing the medic to get my friend back on his feet while our third guy was desperately holding off the zombies - I'd apply a bandage, look up and fire off a magazine, before stuffing my friend full of morphine, change mags, get the blood transfusion bag out, bang bang bang bang, hockey, to the left! blood transfusion in, last mag! how are there this many? oh thank god you're up let's get the fuck out of he- shit, incoming fire! incoming fire!

    why?

because on walking through the open doorway, he just broke both his legs and started bleeding like a fire hydrant, for no reason

    No.

To follow the example set by one of our greats, Amundsen, if I had to shoot a polar bear it would be with great melancholy.

I said wrong initially, Nansen and Johansen lived off polar bears in their journey back from the pole

    14 of them, actually

it was kind of a long trip

but anyway there is no polar bear hunting. There is shooting a polar bear that is intent on gnawing on your mate's head that's kind of it in Svalbard. Or one that just does not want to leave Longyearbyen alone.

heres hoping everquest next scratches that itch

if battle damage sticks around long enough you might wander through a forest and find trees destroyed and giant craters and be like "shit went down here"

also apparently you can just grab a pickaxe and dig which even if its a shitty MMO that will make up for a lot

I'll bet those random blue islands in flyover territory are places where higher bandwidth in the cities outbalances the shitty bandwidth in the rural areas. Decent speeds going to hundreds of thousands of people in Saint Louis makes up for the crappy internet speeds going to the half dozen people in East Bumfuck, Missouri.
