Recs on parts cleaner safe for plastic, rubber, and painted surfaces: engine bay clean-up

DjeetDjeet Registered User regular
I'm halfway through changing the valve cover gasket and the entire vacuum system and I thought I'd take the opportunity to clean up areas that are normally hard to get to. The bay isn't filthy, but it is an 11 year old car so everything has a light film of grease with dust adhering. I've wiped down what I can, but now all the crevices and hard to get to places look even dirtier by contrast, so I'd like something I can spray into these areas.

Everything I currently have that I might use (brake parts cleaner, electrical parts cleaner, carb/choke cleaner) all warn to protect rubber, plastic, and painted surfaces from overspray.

I'm assuming water-based products (e.g. simple green) is a no-no.
