Computer Confusion - Lock Please

Is there any reason that a computer that is scanned for viruses daily, spyware at least weekly, would be locking up randomly in firefox? Also, my CPU usage seems to be stuck at 100%, which is very strange.
I've shut off just about every process I can think of that could be sucking up a lot of memory.
I'm confused.. does anyone else have this issue with firefox or does my computer just hate me? :x
Lock this... to note: Stay away from DesktopX stuff, while it seems to be fun, if you forget to reboot your computer after it uninstalls, it seems to bog the computer down. >.<
