Attention Smash Players: Some bad news......

Due to the sheer size of the tournament (318 pre-registered; God knows how many will sign up the day-of), I have to change the format to accomodate for time.

I had two choices: either make it 4 player Free for All, or the one I chose. Because FFA sucks ass for tournies, I've decided that Smash will have to be ONE GAME single elimination, at least for the qualifiers.

It's lame, I know, especially considering how you'll probably be playing for some pretty sweet prizes. But at least this ensures some level of accuracy, where as FFA screws over any good player who stands out in their pool.

You gotta do what you gotta do. No biggie. I think it's finally time for me to start getting some practice though... Hmm, how to get off of work. ^_^

Pardon my ignorance, but you lost me at the "or the one I chose" part. What did you mean by that? Also, would the FFA be sotck or time? Thanks.

Just not an FFA. I love playing FFA for fun but zig21 is right. The second one person stands out he gets teamed until hes back down to the average score. I would rather go out in the first game 1on1 then go out after 2 games of being teamed in FFA.

It's just fancy word play. The 2nd sentence in that paragraph is all you need to know. Otherwise, the rules are now updated, so just check the thread at the top of the page for verification.

I like one game single elimination anyway.

Single elimination is fine. It'd be nice to have double, but I completely understand why this is necessary.

I'm not going to lose anyway. Bitches.

I think for the opening rounds, it might be better to lower the time limit and do best of three single elim. I think there will be a lot of frustration if people get eliminated without a chance to counterstage.

It all sounds good to me....as long as it doesn't reach the point where they turn away people even if they pre-registered.

    Good choice though.

Considering the Tourney itself is all but free to enter, I don't think we have much room to complain.

If we were paying to play, then it'd be different, but as is I think Single-elim is just dandy.

Did you forget about the admission cost? The tournaments are the sole reason why most are going.

Anyways, I have no problem with single elimination, that's how most tournaments I've been at have functioned.

Good point. It would suck to go there and not be in any tournaments. Then again, it could be fun to watch...

Wait, there were prizes for the tournaments? Well damn, that might have been nice information to have before I didn't register for any of them.

Pre-registration I think is just so they can know how many people they can expect. Its not official, at least for most large events like this (except CPL).

So Zig, you're still going to be accepting sign-ups at the door?
Thank goodness, this SSBM is my main motivation for making it to PAX. I really wish that I had pre-registered...
Is there still any danger in anyone not being able to compete due to too many people? Or will these new rules sort all of this out?

btw, if there are too many people, perhaps you could force them into teams of 2 people. So that there could be 4 people to a machine instead of just 2. This might annoy some, but it would really make it interesting, and help speed along the melee madness.

    thanks
