BiA is pretty much the only WWII FPS game I can think of that doesn't just take the "OMG SCRIPTED KER-RAZINESS!!!11" route. For that, I think the developers deserve pretty massive kudos.

Hell, the original game is a masterclass in how to implement squad mechanics in an FPS while still keeping the game heavily action-focused.

In fact, I think BiA is the only WWII series worth giving a crap about anymore. I'd be surprised if the large majority of the posters in this thread have even played a BiA game.

Frankly, I would think it would have to be. Or the old engine with new levels. The third BiA will be using Unreal Engine 3, and my understanding is that UE3 won't run terribly well on Wii.

EDIT: For the record, I regretfully haven't played a BiA title. And thank you for changing the thread title, Lewii.

Brothers in Arms could be extremely hard and frustrating but it made victory that much sweeter. Online play with the PC version didn't fare so well, though.

Which part of my posts has you so riled up, young one? Is it my distaste for the way developers have collectively and thoroughly raped WW2 as a setting? Perhaps you should go back to not posting.

Oh, also, I've played a Brothers in Arms game. The first one. It was pretty intense and exciting at first and the tactical possibilities were nice and fun and I really liked the game.

Then I passed my third hour playing the game and it got, well, boring. Very boring. It's a very monotonous game. Suppressing and flanking isn't an inherently boring gameplay mechanic, but it's not an inherently fun one either. It was nice for the first few hours, but it became incredibly routine after that.

Enemies are over there, so I send one fireteam to take cover and shoot at them and then I'll take my other fireteam around the side and shoot them. But wait! I can't fucking shoot them because my view with my iron sights is bouncing and bobbing all over the place and are those my feet why am I aiming at my feet oh wow, the sky sure is pretty.

Repeat for ten hours. Beating it was a chore. I hope they can make any new BiA games a lot more interesting for a longer period of time and manage to make the maps a little more realistic. I appreciate that the layout was accurate, but they felt like paintball fields.

I suspect it won't be new levels, as they say it will tell the story of Baker and Hartsock. Baker was the main character in the first game; Hartsock (who also featured in the first game) takes the lead role in the second.

It'd be nice if they can jazz the visuals up a little for the wii, but even if they don't, I must say I found BiA's visuals very appealing (on xbox).

Environmental? Like, sneak in and blow up a dam to flood and take out the base that you couldn't directly attack?

Sure. If, like, it were optional.

For once I'd like to see a WWI game. You know, sit in a trench, blow up and die. Repeat.

Or alternatively, someone could put some research into it and base a WWI game on historical battles instead of pop culture misconceptions.

I've read several memoirs of WWI infantrymen, from various points in the conflict. There'd be plenty to do in an FPS. The early chapters could take place during the war of maneuver and sieges that preceded the solidifying of the front line. Then some chapters set during the back-and-forth exchanges of frontline trenches, and engagements between "bombing platoons" in No Man's Land. Scenarios based on the large-scale battles in which the Allies tried in vain to shatter the German defenses and capitalize on the breakthrough. And then some chapters set during the war of maneuver that accompanied the change in Allied infantry tactics in 1918.

But nobody bothers to learn about WWI these days. There's not a lot of stock footage for the History Channel to play all the time, and because of the way it ended, it's tougher to get all rah-rah, we saved the world about it. Which, IMO, makes it much more fascinating.

    okay jerks

this thread is about Brothers in Arms Wii, or maybe just a little about Brothers in Arms DS

    it's not about:

-whether we need another WW2 game
-whether we need games based on other wars like WW1 or the Hundred Years War or the War of 1812 or any other war
-anything retarded you can think of that's not Brothers in Arms Wii or Brothers in Arms DS

If you want to talk about any of those other things then make your own thread. This one has a topic that we're going to stick to.

didnt they say this game for wii is just going to be a rehash of Earned in Blood + Road to Hill 30 from the PC (but wiimote function added)
If its true... it might be kinda lame. I dont know if the producer (Randy Pitchford)'s words can be trusted.
He keep boasting about the "MOST REALISTIC ww2 shooter EVER"... however, he delivered a game where the only solution to kill a tank is by a box of unlimited panzerschrecks. To make things a bit worse, you cant even go prone =S I am pretty sure that I would crawl on my belly if I get fired upon by machine guns.

To be fair, unless you happen to standing next to a group of sandbags, stacked 2x2x2, laying prone wouldn't do you much good anyway.

Yeah, because presenting a smaller target to the enemy doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Standing up when you're getting shot at with a machinegun is by far the preferred tactic... if you're Robocop.

I think his point is that unless you happen to be near some extremely low cover, crouching is usually a better option than going prone anyway.

Even so, a prone option wouldn't hurt. Mainly I'd like to see more work done on squad AI, as usual.

edit: Oh, and I hope to god they make it so you can skip the psuedo-philosophical ramblings your character does between levels.

Paraphrasing: 'When you look into a man's eyes as he dies, you can tell everything about his life, and whether he regrets it."

Or maybe he just regrets getting shot in the balls, y'know?

Oh yeah, in fact I'd really, really like to see a stronger sense of self-preservation and a better ability to seek cover in your squadmates. They were pretty good at fixing the enemy, usually, but sometimes when the shit hit the fan it was like:

    You: "Corrion! Take cover!"
Corrion and friends: *milling about in the open* "I'm hit!!!"
    You: "No kidding."

Honestly speaking, BIA had an interesting gameplay concept. However, its just that Gearbox screws up here and there on small spots... those small spots eventually bunch up together and cause some problems. As mentioned above, some of the storyline scriptings are pretty lame or over-dramatic.
the part where baker's tank driver buddy died. That part was just retarded... his buddy whined about out of ammo in a firefight and just stood there to be shot by the Germans. I still dont understand why he wasnt smart enough to duck down and hide from the fire. Tanks are armored for a very good reason....
