Okay campers! Rise and shine! And don't forget your booties cause its cold out there today.
Its cold out there everyday. What is this, Miami Beach?
Not hardly. And you know you can expect hazardous travel later today with that you know that blizzard thing.
Oh that blizzard thing. That blizzard thing. Oh well here's the report, the National Weather Service is calling for a "big blizzard thing."
Yes they are, but you know there's another reason that today is especially exciting
Especially cold
Especially cold, okay, but the big question of everybody's lips
On their chapped lips
On their chapped lips, right, do you think Phil is going to come out and see his shadow?
PUNXatawny Phil
That's right, woodchuck chuckers its GROUNDHOG DAY!
Get up and shake that hog out there
C'mere groundhog

Its February 2nd. Groundhog Day is available on Amazon Instant Video, probably on iTunes, too, but not Netflix Instant. Also, there's some kind of sporting event happening in New Jersey tonight. I wonder if they'll wind up playing over and over and over.

Someone said to me yesterday that Groundhog Day was a movie that you could see once and that would be enough

Last year, Netflix had Groundhog Day expire at midnight Feb 1 into the 2nd. It was the most cruel.

I can kinda see where that dude is coming from.
It has a really satisfying ending, and the entire movie is a drama of "will it ever end and how?".

My favorite interpretation of Groundhog Day is that it's a commentary on Bill Murray's ascent to godhead.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

I'm sorry everyone you've ever known has failed you so completely.

Also you've probably seen a groundhog, but you might have called it a marmot, or a woodchuck.

Something about living in a country 100k miles from the groundhog's natural habitat may have something to do with it.

haha now I'm wondering what would have happened if Australia had industrialised and gone and 'discovered' europe et al. People would have sent back weird-looking amateur drawings of cows "It seems to be some kind of large, spindly legged wombat." Moose would have been particularly amazing.

Woodchuck Pie By Everett J. Castro

    hi5mM1L.jpg
    1 woodchuck
    3 medium carrots
    3 potatoes
1/4 cup of butter or margarine
    1 onion, diced
2 tablespoons of flour and piecrust dough

Quarter the woodchuck and place the pieces in a large pot with enough cold water to cover the meat. Boil it for 10 minutes, then discard the water, refill the pan, and bring the liquid to a boil again. Lower the heat and let the contents simmer for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Add the carrots and potatoes and continue cooking the stew for about another 30 minutes ... until the meat is tender and separates easily from the bone. By this time, you should be able to pierce the vegetables readily with a fork. Now, strain the liquid and reserve 2 cups. The remaining pot liquor can be saved for soup stock, or discarded.

Next, remove the cooked meat from the bones and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Melt the butter or margarine in a large, heavy skillet, add the diced onion, and cook it for 5 minutes. Then add the flour and stir the mixture until it bubbles ... put in the reserved liquid and blend the brew some more until it thickens . . . and, when that happens, combine the vegetables and meat, mixing the whole concoction thoroughly.

Finally, butter a large casserole and pour in the meat-and-vegetable mixture. Lay piecrust dough over the top of the filling, brush the pastry with milk, and place the container in a preheated 400°F oven for about 30 minutes, or until the crust has turned golden brown.

I heard this story about a dude who was eating at a restaurant, and somebody walking by his table just reached out and stole one of his french fries. The dude looks up and realizes that Bill Murray has stolen one of his fries. Bill Murray says, "No one will ever believe you."

and the best part about this story is that I still totally can't decide if I believe it!

Apparently they're trying to reintroduce the beaver in Scotland!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqGeSqtB3ls
The Scottish Beaver Trial is a unique and exciting conservation project. Wild beavers have been reintroduced back into Scotland after being extinct in the UK for over 400 years. It is the first official project of its kind in Britain and a groundbreaking five year study to explore how beavers can enhance and restore natural environments.

The beavers were released into Knapdale Forest in the Heart of Argyll in 2009. They have since been busy settling into their new home; from building lodges to nurturing newborn family members. Four beaver families have now been reintroduced and visitors are welcome to explore this stunning woodland and spot the signs of beaver activity.

    I've seen otters, they're lovely.
