Age Gates are horrible in design. Why don't they just have a drop down that says "Select your Age" with numbers 1 to 100? The process of having to select 3 separate fields before getting past the gate is pointlessly annoying.

Hmm, appropriate birthday comic, or most appropriate birthday comic? Either way, I'm super happy with this super awesome comic!
I can't provide a cite for this at the moment*, but age gates are the product of idiot-written legislation. You can't just say "Are you 18", because that's basically "do you want to see this". They think that abstracting the question into "how old are you" like it's just some idle curiosity unrelated to what you want to do, is going to fool people, apparently. It's the same reason date of birth fields aren't just populated to age 18 or whatever.

Age gates are the stupidest goddamn thing. It's almost intellectually offensive to think that they somehow help protect all the children.

I remember back in the day when you needed to put in a credit card number to see (some of) the boobies on the internet, even the free ones.

Is this a venue to talk about the news updates attached to the comic? Hope so:
I can't believe Club PA is back. The original was before my time, but I always got the impression that it was something they were sort of embarrassed about resorting to. My confusion is compounded by the fact that I am definitely going to give them as much money as they ask for 'cause I want all the content and I want them to have it.
Jerry's newspost about the return of Club PA leaves many questions unanswered. Many questions. He says they'll be answered on Monday, but if anyone from PA is reading this, please know that I have visited this site nearly every day since 2000, and the only question that I have is this:
What is it going to take to bring back Strip Search?

I think they might have been embarrassed about needing it when the original Club PA was their sole source of income, particularly since they were both married with real lives. The new version seems to be more of an acknowledgement that there are still people out there who want to give them money, so here's an avenue and some consideration if you're one of those people.
It's like being a street musician for a while, then hitting it big, and still playing on the street because you like it. You don't have to put a hat out anymore, but some people like that there's a hat and it makes them feel good to put something in it.

As far as I've heard, DVD sales will dictate feasibility of Season 2. Turns out reality shows are really, incredibly expensive to create. We all loved Strip Search though (and we love the work that the SS Alum are doing).
Am I the only one on this site who thinks everything they've done this year has been for the worse. Getting rid of PAR, their TV series, bringing back more ads, tiered membership. I get the feeling that they're shooting themselves in the foot. Every reason for me to visit the site is going away or gone. Replaced with promises and filler (zoooomg pins!!!1). This sounds like a pretty negative post but it's mostly out of concern for a site I frequent a lot.

What tiered membership?
and you forgot to mention the podcast coming back, do you hate that too?

Club PA was before my time, but it doesn't sound like anything will change for those that choose not to participate in it so I'm not really understanding you problem with it. And as far as Ads coming back is concerned, that was always the deal, they got rid of them for a year as per the kickstarter goal, they've never said anything about there being more now.
They did the TV series for...three seasons? And there were times in the last season I remember feeling like I was watching filler (there are only so many episodes about PAX you can do). It had a good run and I'd like to see it come back at some point but only if they have enough fresh ideas for new episodes to justify it.
As a heads up, Season 4 of PA:TS is launching this week.
Club PA is just for folks who are into the pins, or want hi-res comic downloads, etc. Otherwise, things are staying mostly the same. It's a system so those that want to chip in have a way to do so (and get cool stuff in the process) that doesn't fundamentally disrupt the core of Penny Arcade- three comics a week for everyone, for free.

Thanks, Jamie.
That's a bit of a bummer to hear. It's been the official word for several months, but there's still no word on when the DVDs are going to be available; and personally I had hoped there was some sort of funding strategy beyond DVD sales. The PA folks have said how much the series cost to produce, and if you consider that, the estimated cost of producing and selling DVD sets, and the number of YouTube views for the final episode, it becomes clear that a relatively large percentage of the Strip Search viewer base would need to buy the DVD set in order for PA to break even on the original season, to say nothing of funding a second season. I would be one of those buyers, but I don't think it would be enough.
So there's that. And when you combine that with PA's current direction of distancing itself from anything with which it used to be associated except for the strip (understandable, but still kind of a bummer), I don't think there's ever going to be another season of Strip Search unless someone else takes over the IP from Penny Arcade.
Anyway, thanks again for your response; I'll cease this derail here.
Better strategy would be 50% DVDs (which should have been out 3 weeks before Christmas at the absolute latest) and 50% new kickstarter - Strip Search specific.

YES! This is the best news I have seen all day. I love the Penny Arcade office culture, the ping pong series, Robert's management/hiring brutality, etc. I can't wait to indulge in this once more. :-D

They mentioned this during one of Mike's AC4 streams. Basically, buy every Stripsearch DVD they make.
