Interesting journalism podcasts/audio?

So when I'm working during the day I don't really need to be concentrating super hard and thus I like to listen to music or podcasts to kind of keep my mind occupied and stay focused on my task (never videos though, unlike some lucky people I can't like watch TV and work at the same time).

I like to listen to this american life which is pretty fun, but my favorite shows are the ones that talk about heavier stuff (like history, current political events, feminist related stuff, etc) and recently came across this amazing talk on youtube:

which I was really engrossed in but I couldn't really find more huffpost stuff that was nice and long. Only little mini clips, and I wasn't able to find the full videos on the huffpost website either which was a bummer.

I'm not really sure what to call something like this. Basically I'm just looking for interesting audio journalism or talk or debate to listen to that are pretty long.

I already know about Nightvale and that's an awesome radio show but I'm not really wanting to listen to that or stuff like it when I'm working because I need to concentrate a little harder on that audio to really enjoy it.

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it!

When I did data entry I did the same thing, but I would do audio books and audio lectures. I mowed through 100 or so books and maybe 50 lectures, the teaching company is great but cost Texa$, but there are some free ones too. podcast novels are good too.

For journalism, NPR has some decent podcasts, I would stay away from their music podcasts but their news ones are good.

Yeah you're going to have to be more specific about your interests. Agreed with zepherin that NPR has some good news podcasts. I like planet money for economic info/news, although it tends to be on the dummed down side of things.

Not NPR but intelligence squared debates is a decent podcast that takes on topical political debates. It's good in that they usually find highly respected people for the debates, but given the format of short length oral debates you can only be so detailed. It can definitely get frustrating at times when everyone is just talking past eachother or refusing to acknowledge what the other side is claiming as fact. It is interesting to see what the opinions of highly respected people in different fields are though. The podcast is an edited down version of the entire debates which can be found online somewhere.

I've heard good things about the podcast stuff you missed in history class, although I've never listened myself (not a huge history buff).

I wish he updated it more often, but Hardcore History is really great.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Jebus, its kind of a nebulous mix of interests but I guess mainly history, recent politics, feminism and LGBTQ issues/news. Stuff from a feminist/activist viewpoint would be extra awesome. I'm totally happy for things to be a bit dummied down because I really just need something interesting to listen too.

I'm stoked to check out some of these history podcasts! I've been watching the Crash Course history videos, but sadly I can't do that while working because its so visual.
