So Sudeki just doesn't work for me. Tried pretty much everything on the A to Z guide of getting shit to work. No dice.
Sad day, I finally try to play a game I buy on the day I buy it and it doesn't work. I think this is a sign that my previous habit of buying games and not playing them for a year or so is the Right and Proper path.
Finished up Paper Sorcerer over the weekend. That was pretty good. Some minor menu irritations aside, it was good fun. I will say I was pretty much ready for it to be done by the time I got to the end.
I'd recommend it if you have a hankering for an older style dungeon crawl with a funky visual style.
I should add in here another thank you to @johnnyactionfngr for gifting it to me in first place.

Haven't finished it yet myself, but yes - a solid dungeon crawler.
Guys, Desperados is only 1.24 right now. That game is awesome. I bought the boxed version back in the day, and more recently on gog when it released there, and it's still awesome. If you think you'd like a western, strategy, hide bodies and sneak around game with an isometric view, you'd probably like this game. I don't know much about 2, though.
Desperados 1 was so great. It was basically Commandos with a Western theme but it did improve on some things too.
I haven't played it since it released but I remember playing a demo of the second one a long time ago.
They moved into using 3D for it at that stage and it just didn't feel right to me after. The same happened with the Commandos games.
Oh nice, The Yawhg hits Steam in a few days. http://store.steampowered.com/app/269030/
Looks like a nice Monster Loves You/Long Live the Queen sort of game. I remember seeing stuff for this before I ever got to play those other games. More of this sort of thing is welcome.
This one will work well for splitting decisions with the wife as well.

The Yawhg is great to play with another person as either play their own character, or to discuss decisions going forward with all characters. Without much to go on in terms of what's happening in the world, you'd be surprised about how compelling the narrative remains after a couple of playthroughs (they take about 5-10 mins each). Being a complete drunk before the Yawhg arrives sounds like fun initially, but the game does not shy away from the darker parts of humanity in the wake of a city-destroying disaster.
Overall I enjoyed my short time with it, and look forward to a few more playthroughs the next time I wander into that part of the PC. I really dig the art theme, too.
So I watched some Thief gameplay and I kind of like it. Not enough to pay full price on release day but I'll watch for a sale. It feels like Dishonored and I absolutely love Dishonored.
Definitely wait for a sale. A lot of the videos up right now are for the much more solid early levels. Apparently things start to get worse the farther into the game you get.
Maybe they started a polish pass and ran out of time, I dunno.
There's no plan, there's no race to be run
The harder the rain, honey, the sweeter the sun.
I don't think it has been mentioned yet, but The Humble Store is having a Deep Silver Week sale. today's special is Saints Row IV for $16 (60% off). Looks like all the SRIV DLC they have is 60% off as well.
but how many times do you guys usually lock down one castle?
If there's a chest you can reliably get to and you want a shot at it again, locking is a good choice. Or maybe if there's a boss you really, really want to kill right now. Otherwise, let it randomize.
I think I locked the castle like twice ever because I was all about that CASH MONEY SON.

Yeah, I think I only ever did it once too. The randomization is a big part of the fun for me.
so the fact that i've played the same castle for about 25 generations makes me weird huh
Especially in the beginning game, you want as much money as possible to upgrade your stats/equipment so you have can have a fighting chance in the castle, and taking a 40% cut every time is going to make doing that much more laborious than it needs to be.
Am I the only one wishing (hoping?) that we start getting more of the old console games ported across to PC? I'm blaming the ports of Final Fantasy 7 & 8 (which are currently sat in my Steam folder mocking me with their inactivity - I blame Baldur's Gate for that!), plus a lot of reminiscing prompted by this revival in older style games (things like Aveyond etc), but I can't help feeling there is a massive untapped market out there, especially for old school RPGs and tactics games.
Basically, I think I just want to play Suikoden 1 & 2 (and games of that ilk) *grins*
Final Fantasy VII and VIII aren't ports from the PS1, they're re-releases of the original PC versions. If your favorite console JRPG from the 90s didn't have a PC release, the odds of it hitting Steam are basically zero.
I'd love to see more tactical RPGs on Steam. I'd kill a man for a proper Front Mission (not a real time action game like Evolved) for the PC.
X-com + ghost busters = something that just got greenlit
Listen man...
You can't just say stuff like that and then leave it alone
I mean
you can't just say something like "X-Com + ghostbusters = something that just got greenlit" without linking it
that's like saying "Oh hey guess what stacks old buddy, I know a 6'1" plus sized bikini model slash yachting enthusiast slash STEM major who plays a mean game of Quake III and also said she'd totally blow you" and then not tell me anything about who or where this woman is.
I believe Royce was talking about GhostControl Inc. He neglected to mention that it's X-Com + Ghostbusters + Business Sim, which is even more awesomer.
All they need to do now is get that on Steam so I can wishlist/buy it. Fucking sold.
Also, this makes me even sadder that Harold Ramis is gone.
Looks like it's greenlit already.
True, but the developers said they were aiming for an April Steam release. That's like, months!
so the fact that i've played the same castle for about 25 generations makes me weird huh
Nah. I've played through about 20 different times in one of the same castle. Mainly because I was trying to get a chest and I just would not give it up.
I finally got the chest.

And Dead Island Riptide is 3.74 €/$. That's a pretty hefty discount, not sure if it's a mistake or not. Grab it while you can if you are interested in the game.

Looks like the dropped the base price and upped the discount from when I looked earlier today.

I would only use locking for those times you've reached a boss and REALLY want to kill it off.
Or if you're developed to the point that you just want to finish the game.
Otherwise, reset everytime and profit.
yeah i just unlocked the castle and boy
did i make this game more difficult than it needed to be. I thought the bosses I beat would reset too.
Locking the castle is good when you are after things besides gold. If I drew a spelunker, I would sometimes use it to map out as many rooms with chests before I died and then lock down the castle going after those chests. It was great for making sure I wasn't behind on blueprints and eventually got ahead of the curve on them and filling out all the runes so that rune chests started spitting out free stat upgrades. Equipment upgrades are more cost effective than level up upgrades to attack and defense and free upgrades are obviously very cost effective so you don't need as much gold to improve yourself.

I see riptide at $15 and DI1 at $10. Maybe you got really lucky or their currency exchange is way off.

So it really was a mistake. Yeah, it's fixed now. Not sure how long it was up, I only checked the page when LostNinja posted it.
I've got 9 hours into dungeon siege 1 and it feels like I've barely scratched the surface, I'm still in those mines with a decent crew but, caves are getting boring.

Also, why would anyone pay for Plague Inc: Evolved when people can play that for free on Newgrounds?

I never fear death or dyin', I only fear never trying.
Just like to say I would love to recommend DarkOut for people who love survival, but every game (3 times so far, in 7 hours.) it eventually breaks my save and I can no longer save (or when auto save runs it crashes).
It is truly a game that should be stamped Early Access. It even says Beta on the store page but isn't filed as such. I didn't know that until I started looking for the issue I was having. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty fun if you like survival games. It just needs to simmer on low for about a year.
And I wish I could still say thanks to the person that gifted it to me (or was it from a bundle? It says gift/retail key in my account profile), but apparently my record keeping is bad or retail keys mark as Gifts, I don't know.. It is going into the "Try again later" category.
Found it, and had to new post so the tag goes out, Thanks @Maguano I'm sure it's going to get better plus they're adding multiplayer sometime this year apparently.

They both worked best as 2D.

"Hey let's try Vertigo, that might be fun!"
Thanks for Bioshock Infinite @Spoit. I think it's now time to stop entering these giveaways and finish some of these damn games.
Unless, of course, I see a give away for a game I don't have with 0 or only 1 entry. Can't let it be that easy (or go to waste), now can I?
Vertigo actually made me feel a little ill. I totally thought I could handle it but nope.
