Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service for Nintendo DS and Wii to end in May
2014-02-26
As of May 20, 2014, certain online functionality offered through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will no longer be accessible. The discontinued services include online play, matchmaking and leaderboards for many Wii, Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi games. For a comprehensive list of games and services that are affected, please check
http://support.nintendo.com/servicesupdate. Users can still play the games in offline mode, which continues to offer a rich game-play experience.
Online play for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games will be unaffected (aside from the Wii mode on Wii U and Nintendo DS games on Nintendo 3DS family systems). Other online functionality, such as access to the Wii Shop Channel, the Nintendo DSi Shop and video-on-demand services, are also not affected at this time.
We at Nintendo sincerely thank our fans for their continued support of our company’s legacy systems. Your enthusiasm for games made for these systems speaks to their longevity, and the passion of Nintendo fans.

This makes me want to play some Goldeneye
I guess what I'm saying is: Is it now or never for DLC (what little there is), and if it is, does anyone know which games have it?
Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!
I think DLC is covered under Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Pay & Play which isn't ending.
Also Monster Hunter Tri on Wii has been offline for a while now right around when the Wii U version released. I think Capcom themselves handles online for Monster Hunter.
I mean, granted, I could never get it to work anyway, but...
The only difference here is that the Wii is shutting down much earlier than its contemporaries, but that's because the Wii had shitty online that might as well have no users when compared to the 360 and PS3.
Yeah, gave them a call, they say that stuff will continue on for now.

(And if anyone ever bought a WiiWare game called "Overturn", or still plays CoD:WaW, I'd love to swap friend codes to have a chance to try that out while I can.)

Spoiler contains Friend Codes. Won't you be my friend?

From what I understand, the extra quests are technically in the game, but the only reason you would have to connect is to receive an unlock code-like thing from Nintendo. Something you can get from Action Replay (if you want to go that route after the shutdown)
Did anyone get in any last minute matches of their favorite games?
And I mean STUPID.
Stupid as in me not being in on the joke that if one person attacks another, it becomes an all-vs.-attacker match.
At least there was no lag.......at first. Eventually, it just chugged and everyone moved about as quickly as a Pokemon match in terms of command input -> movement. I wonder if that was also somehow intentional by those I played against, because despite the handicap and mounting losses, I still wasn't giving up.
