[Demon Gaze] Is Well Done! *huff* *huff* You Can Do It
Posts
Edit: Wow, Mars is surprisingly hard.
Defeated Hermes but man.....that fight. I didn't have trouble with it so much as I got in a bad position and it took FOREVER.
The problem happened when I went into the fight with Whistle up. Hermes did a move that tried to change my formation and Whistle prevented it, but what I didn't realize is that caused Whistle to expire, and my Gazer had 1mp. Hermes did the move again and I spent the rest of the fight with my Healer in the front, and my Gazer, Samurai, and Paladin IN THE BACK.
Luckily I had ranged weapons on my Gazer and Paladin, so they plinked away at the Seeds and Hermes while my Samurai used items to heal what damage got thru the Holy Shield.
It took a while, but I was victorious!
Edit: As a side note, sadly my healer did die, in the same round Hermes did, so she missed out on 30k xp
The gazer can use ranged weapons, hence you do the agi/luc til much later when you start backrowing him to do party formations and demon summons.
Which is what the first suggestion basically entails. You don't seem to need mys til much later. But eventually he'll just be a demon cannon, but you can abuse dual wielding until then from the front row. While you'll really not have enough demons/MP to use him as merely a summoner til later.
I just don't even use normal attack with him anymore.
My samurai just learned Slash 1, and yeah, it's been pretty great. So many walls of enemies facing her blades.

Had a silence bow on him that trivialized Hermes. Apparently you can silence demons, so this prevented him from using his row swap entirely.
Strength is useless. Vit affects your max HP gain and is not retroactive, so you want it raised to 10-15 early on so you can gain a good amount of HP. Mys and Int are the same but Int doesn't help the MC at all.
Two artifacts supposedly increase your base defense (Divine Body) and evade (Shadow Step) when you level up, but it was discovered this only happens while you have them equipped. In other words, giving Divine Body to your Gazer or a Samurai very early can help with their defense, but you can only do it once I think. Giving Shadow Step to your Paladin as soon as you get it is vital.
You gain more evade if you level up while naked. This is primarily for assassins but affects everyone.

Been doing ok, so far.

The fight with Neptune was fairly tricky. I got hammered pretty good on the first attempt, but the second went better.
As is usual for this game I got stomped in the following fight.
I have yet to see the divine body artifact show up at all though so fuck that one.
My samurai was a delicate porcelain doll until about level 5 or 6.
I now have enough cash to make my 5th party member. I'm rocking Gazer/Samurai in the front and Wizard/Healer in the back. Can't decide if I want a paladin in the front or an assassin in the back. Choices.

Saving up for that 5th party member. Think I'm gonna go with a Wizard, but I also think a Ranger might be rad too. Decisions decisions!
And yes, right now my samurai is quite the glass cannon, still think I need a couple more levels and a bit more AGI before I can rely on her too much.

Has anyone else finished that quest yet?
Also, I'm sad to admit that I just recently realized that the + numbers next to your stats in the level up screen is in fact NOT stat gains for that level
I've been putting points into the wrong things, thinking I gained some points in other stats each level

It helped that I already had my 5th room and found a staff that sold for 10k. Plus I looted one of the pieces, but yeah, it hurt the pocket book!
Edit: I figured out the color thing. After you select your picture it gives you the choice of the standard coloring or an alternate.

There is absolutely no requirement to buy the items to get them. You can find them on yournown.
I never found one either, unless one unlocks later on. Most likely they just want to make you walk it.
I just never looted one, guess I'll just start grinding out gems.
At least I'm just not being clueless and missing it.
I went with an assassin with a bow in the back line, I've always been a "more power" type of RPG player.

I did the same. Started a Wizard first and then changed to an Assassin later (mostly driven by the underwater area) and haven't looked back.
Everything I've read seems to indicate that Wizard utilities are easily replaced by artifacts and are largely useless as a result thanks to the game subscribing to the classic "mana is a pointlessly precious resource but also doesn't do anything to justify its existence due to it" policy that a lot of first person crawlers are guilty of(especially wizardry clones). The benefit to casting against a target that the spell is supposed to be strong against is also almost unnoticeable compared to costless and spammable alternatives like Slash or Sneak Attack.
Wizard's are god-tier support-class late bloomers. All the early stuff can be replaced by artifacts, but the later stuff is gold. They can buff people with anti-God and remove all buffs from enemies for example. This includes '50% damage taken' buffs. They can also turn into a good healer.

This was pretty much the game that pushed me to get a Vita, and I just have to say….
TOTALLY WORTH IT
This game is Vita only. The next game by the same company(Stranger of Sword City) is Vita/PC/360, but who knows what versions will be localized (probably Vita for sure, by the sales of the first game). Then there's another dungeon crawler coming out soon that's also for the Vita (Mind = 0).
The general rule of thumb is you have a 3DS for Etrian Odyessey style Dungeon Cralwers and a Vita for Vita+PSP Wizardy-like and Improved-Upon-Wizardry Dungeon Crawlers.

The game bent me over with this one. Beat a tricky boss, and on the way back to save ran into something crazy. Orc Chief I think. He beat the snot out of me, and now I keep dying on the boss. Stupid instant death moves.

Starting to get decent gear from the gems, Samurai is finally pulling her weight and is annihilating lines of mobs and the healer has a chance to restore all MP and double my time out in the field. Score! Oh, I need to head back because I have to speak to Lorna to get past something...
Oh my...
You look perfectly normal my dear. I'll ignore the slip of the tongue, the blast of extreme heat when you get really angry and that behaviour which somewhat strikes me as a little bit odd.
Thank you for the feast
Edit:
Oh yes, can we add in the OP or somewhere about tips for newbies that you can buy gems from the item store, and for the most part you'll actually make more money from them than you spent buying the gem? The Nameless gems are unlimited in quantity while the others aren't quite unlimited.
Seems I just had to stop being pigheaded about the way I was aproaching the fight.
I retooled a little and stomped him HARD.
