Watching the original series right now.

If the opening theme does not make your heart do things then there is no hope for you.

That isn't really what a producer does within the realm of television.

So it isn't. Wwwwweeird. I mean, I get that television and film and the stage are all different media, however similar they might seem, but I wonder why TV producers don't use a different title?

...anyway. Good show, A+, will watch again

Alot of people seem to have disliked the Part in the middle about Giadarno Bruno but upon watching Cosmos again I think I can see why this was put in here

You see in a way Bruno is Neil deGrasse Tyson... and Hagan... and me and you guys. Seekers of the truth... The full truth
Those who try to use common sense reason and logic and scientific proof to convince those who still refuse to believe it

How different are we from bruno when we argue that The universe was not created in 7 days or that it wasn't created for just us and us alone or that we all came from primitive primates

Look how far science has gone in 400 years and look how little religion has advanced since then.

I think the part about Bruno was put there as the biggest push back to religion
A sort of "If you were wrong about that then and we were right than why can't you be wrong about all this now? and why would we be wrong?"

    Like these guys
    Darmak wrote: »

Everyone of those tweets sound just like Brunos detractors.
Like they are plugging their ears and there by their brains ignoring whats right in front of them because they can't... or wont comprehend it

    This show is amazing.

I am so taken back, and endlessly happy, that Fox would be so trusting to put this on at 9 p.m. on Sundays.

    SO HAPPY.

I just want it to perform decenlty on the ratings end of things and then let hype build up in the coming weeks

I'm really afraid of its competition coming soon.

    Well, they produce television programs?

I think the title fits more for them in television than for producers in the movie industry.

Man, that.. was an awesome introduction to the series that is coming.

What I like most is that they aren't pulling punches, and just laying out information. I'm kind of amazed this is on FOX actually - but very happy. Great stuff. I wish they would release the DVD set to us now so I could just buy it instead of waiting a week per episode.

The most counterproductive thing fans can do, with regard to the mission of cosmos, is to stage discussions which imply that cosmos isn't meant for x group of people.

Let's get excited about the exploration of the universe together.

watching it now. pretty solid. I heard criticism of the animation but it's alright, and as long as they don't do every single historical recount with animation I can deal with it

I am so excited that Cosmos is back and that it's this good

I think Seth MacFarlane being a producer has a lot to do with it being given a chance at all, and I'm glad he's cashing in on his success to do such a thing

    No, Stupid people.

Differently educated people would look at scientific fact and incorporate it into their belief system or change their opinions, or at the absolute worst acknowledge it but respectfully voice a dissenting belief.

If you have been raised in a certain way of thinking and never been taught to be critical or to look outside of that and consider new worldviews then it's really really hard to break that, even for intelligent people

  • chromdomchromdom Who? Where?Registered User regular
And that's the value of Cosmos, and the Nye-Ham debate. Putting the idea that there are more ideas out there, that science is good and useful and helps us, putting that concept in front of people who haven't been exposed to it, is... invaluable in a way I can't express.

Family Guy is still super popular, Ted was a pretty big success, American Dad does well for itself.

Also Obama is a big pro-science guy so it might not have even been a called in favor that got him to do it, but the potential for a new crop of innovators.

Yeah. This doesn't get on the air (at least not with this kind of budget, on a big 4 network) without someone like that backing it.

My mum's a priest, and those last two tweets are pretty fuckin' spot-on to an educated theologian's reconciliation of creation and science.

Kinda reminds me of that Mark Twain short story with the aliens sharing Heaven, which actually does theologically hold up if you ask some of the priests I know.

He and Druyan have become close friends, and Druyan stated that she believed that Sagan and MacFarlane would have been "kindred spirits" with their respective "protean talents".[8] In June 2012, MacFarlane provided funding to allow about 800 boxes of Sagan's personal notes and correspondences to be donated to the Library of Congress.[10]

OK so that's actually super awesome, I had no idea that happened.

Molten variables hiss and roar. On my mind-forge, I hammer them into the greatsword Epistemology. Many are my foes this night.
