Looking to buy an arcade game cabinet...

WordherderWordherder Registered User regular
Thanks to a new house and some savings, I finally get to live the dream and put an arcade machine in my office. Unfortunately, the arcade machine market is kinda like the wild west -- in my searching it's been tough to find unified prices for things so I'm not sure how to make sure I'm not getting ripped off. Also, what's the shipping situation like? I live in a barely second-tier metro area so I'll be shocked if I can find anyone local. If it helps, I'm looking for this:

And, if I have the money and room, possibly this:

Can anyone point me to someone you trust?

Why the crap did I ever make my original name "cloudeagle?"

I'm not sure the BEST way to do this, but I'd give Funspot in New Hampshire - http://www.funspotnh.com/, a buzz. They have thousands of the darn things and can surely point you in the right direction - I'd try getting in contact with the museum 'curators' as well.

Funspot is one place, but I actually prefer Pinball Wizard in NH. Sarah is a super nice owner, and she actually does repair older arcade systems. She does specialize in pinball, but they do all sorts of older games. I've seen both of those that you posted at the arcade there, in great working condition. I think she'd def point you in the right direction.

Edit: I actually just found her repair/sale/service site. Be much more helpful than her arcade business. myarcaderepair.com/

Do you want those specific cabinets? or are you looking for a cabinet with a whole bunch of games on it? This place seems legit, but pricey.

If you are looking for a specific cabinet, you probably have quite a hunt on your hands.

If you have a local coin op distributor you could buy a cabinet and get the transfers to apply to the sides. A number of years ago I paid $75 for a horizontal cabinet with JAMMA wiring harness. We had to pick the unit up from the warehouse. Renting a friend and a hand truck (and maybe a truck) is usually enough to move these things around.

Also look at MAME cabinets if you want to go for a lot of different games.

I'm not endorsing these people because i have not bought or even spoken to them however I was browsing and found this entry a few days ago that I found interesting enough to consider getting a basic model installed. I like the one thats just a stand up joystick cabinet that hooks up to a flatscreen on the wall). Sounds like what your interested in.

I actually worked for Konami back in the day. Your best bet is to probably get with one of the distributors. A lot of them have gone under, but depending on your area, I might be able to point you in the right direction.
A conversion kit is a pretty cheap way to go, depending on your skill level.
Are you wanting a turnkey plug in and go, or do you want to build your own?
