I'm here for another 10 days, and I need some recommendations. Places to go, things to do. Any ideas?

Well I can do that at the weekend, but I can't do a 300 mile round trip each evening.

Austin is a great weekend trip but definitely not feasible during the week if you are working during the day.

If you like good food there are a number of great restaurants here in Houston. On the southwest side near 59 and beltway 8 there are some great Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Pakistani places. I could recommend ones of each if curious. Closer to downtown there are tasty gourmet dogs made of rabbit, pheasant, and bison at Moon Tower Inn, very tasty mac and cheese at Just Mac, some solid tex-mex at Los Cucos, and some decent Italian places, including one of the best restaurants you will ever go to in Da Marco.

If you want to hit up a good bar with good bar food there are a number of solid choices. Han's Beir Haus has a good selection and a back patio with bocci ball, The Flying Saucer has over 200 beers to choose from, Under The Volcano is a great tiki bar with solid mixed drinks, and some great bar food and beer at Public House, Petrol Station, and Onion Creek. Also I highly recommend checking out the Saint Arnold's Brewery and/or the Karbach brewery. They have great beer on tap, including usually some special barrel aged beers.

I also love the museum district if you have a chance. Natural History Museum is wonderful, Museum of Fine Arts Houston and the Contemporary Arts Museums are wonderful too, and there is a great park near by (Herman Park) to walk around with a Japanese Garden and reflection pool.

Also Albert Hammond Jr is playing at Warehouse Live tonight and Flogging Molly is playing at House of Blues Thursday if you want to go to a show.

Yeah, I really dug the museum district when I went there. If you're a fan of books, and more specifically, mysteries and thrillers, check out Murder by the Book. Cool little bookstore.

That's a good list, thanks. Are there any gaming places around? I've gotten used to Seattle having the Raygun Lounge and Card Kingdom as bar/pub/boardgame hangouts.

What area of Houston are you in? Downtown, North Houston, South Houston?
Any kind of budget are you on?
Most importantly, what are you wanting to do? singles, family, etc?
For gaming places, you have 2 Dave & Busters.
You might also check out Joystix near Minute Maid park. It's a cool indy arcade/bar place.

One that isn't done being built yet. Brookhollow?

Budget isn't so much of an issue. It's just me. Activities? I don't really know. A good mix of everything, I guess.

what have you done, where have you eaten? for steak I suggest Pappas Bros. Steakhouse. There are some cool museums around. Like the Menil Collection. Also the Print Museum. That one was a lot cooler than I expected. If you get a chance you can walk around the Rice campus and stuff.

    Anyway, I love Houston.

I have two evenings left. Moon Tower Inn and Under The Volcano are probably my two favourites here. Activity wise I did the Natural History Museum, went diving, and caught the show at House of Blues. I also went around Austin at the weekend, which was very reminiscent of Portland, OR. 6th in particular.

I've been told I need to go see the Saturn rocket, which is on the list for tonight.

Oh man, going to NASA was awesome. We went with my parents when they were in town over Christmas, and you absolutely have to see the Saturn V. The scale is...astounding. We sent that into SPACE.
