Medieval 2: Total War Kingdoms Expansion Announced

edited April 2007 in Games and Technology
Announced a like 5 days ago, and I have yet to see anything, is a new Total War Expansion! Expansion is called Kingdoms and features:

· Four new, epic campaigns – The Americas, Britannia, The Crusades, and The Teutonic Wars.
· 23 playable factions including Aztec and Native Americans.
· Over 150 new units, including the devastating Greek Firethrower
· Control multiple armies in battle – command reinforcement armies.
· New hero characters with powerful new battlefield abilities
· A huge array of historical characters and events.
· Build permanent forts to garrison troops or seize control of key strategic points
· New technology trees influenced by Religion and Prestige
· New Mission types
· 6 New Multiplayer scenarios and 20 new Custom Battle maps
· Compatible with the new Hotseat multiplayer mode

Epic campaigns in detail:

The America's Campaign-

Kingdoms_Screen1.jpg

7 playable factions – Spain, The Aztecs, Mayans, Apachean Tribes, Chichimeca, Tlaxcalans and Tarascans.

The Americas…a land of mystery, great riches and exploration, but wrought with treacherous terrain and terrifying inhabitants. Cortes arrives in 1519 with a small, elite force of conquistadors and must rely on his motherland of Spain for the reinforcements and supplies that will help him survive and explore these new lands. Earn the support of Spain to help you explore the mystery and riches of the New World, or take control of the Aztec or Native American factions and call on the Gods and your vast armies to see off this new threat.

The Britannia Campaign-

Kingdoms_Screen2.jpg

5 Playable Factions – England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Norway.

The year is 1258 and England has emerged as a superpower, with a firm grip on the provinces of the British Isles. However, as the English, your forces are spread thinly with the threat of rebellion looming large. Wales and Ireland are poised, ready to rise up and exploit the exposed English provinces. The Scots meanwhile, are squeezed between England’s expansion to the North and the growing Viking presence that threatens their shores. These five kingdoms are set to battle for supremacy in a fast-paced, war strewn campaign that delivers huge battles for high stakes.

The Crusades Campaign-

Kingdoms_Screen3.jpg

5 Playable factions – Kingdom of Jerusalem, Principality of Antioch, Egypt, Turks, Byzantium.

Recreate the epic Crusades in the Holy Land, leading the Crusade States to reclaim Christendom or the defenders of Islam to drive out the infidels. It’s 1174 and the Kingdom of Jerusalem and Principality of the Antioch are united in their struggle for the Holy Land against Egypt, the Turks and Byzantium.

The Teutonic Campaign-

Kingdoms_Screen4.jpg

6 Playable factions – Teutonic Order, Lithuania, Denmark, Novgorod, Poland and the Holy Roman Empire.

In 1250, Northern Europe is locked in a bitter struggle between Paganism and Christianity, once ordained as a Crusade, it is now an unholy slaughter by the dreaded Teutonic order. Take up the black cross and carve out a new empire in the North. Construct mighty fortresses, train powerful Knights to destroy all that lies in your path, or adopt the cause of the Pagan factions and seek to withstand the vengeance of the Order, inspired by your powerful Gods.

I'll wait until they finish Medieval 2: Total War first before I look into an expansion. Am I right? But yes, it does look very snazzy.

    What's wrong with it?

OT: I'll be interested to see how the campaign in the Americas turns out

Hopefully hero units will be more along the lines of a morality boost than a one-man asskicking machine.

yeah, but generals already do that. So you just know there's going to be all sorts of retarded alt-fire shit.

Or I might be pleasantly surprised. Creative Assembly aren't raging idiots after all.

I'm hoping (guessing) that Hero's will just have more advanced leadership abilities, like the ability to make all units in proximity "fresh" or "eager" again, stuff like that.

Does this game have any high-end requirements? My computer can run F.E.A.R. with a bit of lag, so I'm thinking that means anything current-gen should be okay. I've been meaning to get into a current RTS, but I'm not sure where to start, and the atmosphere of this one seems tempting.

Kensai were basically units of a single man, who would proceed to kill everything near them.

That said, it was interesting to do "Seven Samurai" custom battles with them.

Ninjas were just that, huge units of ninjas, who would throw shurikens.

Someone once said that the tradition has been for the expansions in the TW series to be less historical but more flavorful. Like the insane berserkers in Barbarian Invasion.

Kensai are single-man units that cut a swathe of blood through entire 60-man units. And since they are single-man units, they gain experience really fast, making them even more deadly. But they can be overwhelmed and killed.. eventually. I have a feeling hero units would be something like the Kensai too.

Shogun : Total War was pretty fun, though being the first game in the series, it was not without its faults. Geisha army are terrifying, since they are even more suited at assassination than the ninjas. The ninjas! I wish one day they'll remake Shogun : Total War.

I've gotten all the Total War games and the expansion. No doubt I'll be getting this one as well, probably in a month or two after the game is released, so there would be a patch for any bugs by then.

thats what they've said on their forums, it will be simple things like improve morale and things of that nature

also a second patch will come out soon, it was supposed to come out Thursday but there were issues with it. theres a torrent of the patch out there, it was made before they realized the error and pulled them all. i guess its an issue with the installer and the previous 1.1 patch. i did a fresh install and only installed 1.2 and seems to fix a lot of the bugs.

God does the 2 handed bug need to be fixed. I'm sick of my iron-clad, double handed swordsmen being taken down to size by a unit of un-upgraded spear militia. And I saw something about fixing AI breaking alliances in the changelog. I can't stand how untrustworthy the AI is. Trying to sign an alliance is a waste of time. The only way to maybe stave off a war is to pay them for peace, which for some reason the AI honors better than an alliance that I have to pay them to accept.

Also, this game is way too long. They need to give you the ability to start in different ages like the first M:TW. I've been playing a campaign for a couple months on and off, having gotten the long campaign beat ages ago, waiting for the new world to open up. The Timurids popping up isn't a very exciting challenge when I control everything from the holy land west.

I've been checking various units with the leaked patch and i just ran a a custom battle with HRE Zwei Hander against Peasants and Spear Militia and both times the 2H swords had no trouble against them. Calvary also seems to move much better and the shield bug seems to be taken care of.
