Freebird is an insult to music.

I mean

man

The vocals are so bad and crooney

And the lyrics, god the lyrics

And the guitar solo at the end, played by a guitarist who seems to know three licks

and each phrase linking those licks together is the musical equivolent of a brain haemorrhage

and then you get those cocksuckers

those cunts

who yell freebird at every gig I go to

never was I so happy for a load of people to die in a plane crash as when it happened to lynyrd skynyrd

    A rock music staple? I would prefer staples through my eardrums to this trash.

    It's like Guns 'n Roses, but instead of just Axl Rose, the entire band is utter shit.

    Do you like Will Smith? I've been a big Will Smith fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Will Smith. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Will Smith where, uh, Will Smith' presence became more apparent. I think Miami was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Will Smith. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Miami. In this song, Will Smith addresses the problems of abusive political authority. Miami is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as, uh, anything I've heard in rock. Will Smith' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like Miami. But I also think Will Smith works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Miami, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
