Unless the shop said otherwise I would postulate that bolt sheared off because the other ones were all loose. on a 5-6 lug pattern if all the bolts are torqued to spec, losing one shouldn't make a difference.
Either way though, it's a good reminder to inspect your wheels and tires regularly, especially if you experience an incident while driving!
Big race day today; Monaco Grand Prix going on right now, the Indy 500 this afternoon (local time) and then the Charlotte Coca-Cola 600 this evening. Kurt Busch is going to attempt to race in both Indy and Charlotte, he would be the 4th racer to do so.
the list of guys who try to do both of those races not particularly prestigious
Tony Stewart the only prominent one... then a big drop down to Robby Gordon who is now racing baja trucks on jump ramps at Indy Car weekends
I cannot watch Indy oval racing (or any Indy racing for that matter). I watched it last year and it was ridiculous how strong the draft was. I think there were 100+ lead changes
i think my battery is going dead or some other starting problem is developing
needs an extra beat-and-a-half on cold starts to get going
my cooling fan has been working overtime in the heat so I'm guessing that's been bleeding it dry, it runs for a good 30 minutes in my garage after I get home

Do you have a trickle charger? Also, when you say heat, how hot? How's your cooling system performing?
well its 90+ in Florida right now every afternoon and it's a relatively slow commute in traffic, so not much quality airflow. It's ordinary for my engine fan to run after I turn my car off almost every summer day, and at red lights
i don't have a trickle charger
the car is 4 years old, if it's on its original battery than I can't say I'm surprised it's due.

4 years is a pretty good life out of a standard lead acid battery, yeah.
As long as your car temp gauge doesn't ever go past halfway, then your cooling system is probably pretty okay. Has your coolant been changed since new? Ethylene/propylene glycol based coolants generally last about 4 years before needing replacing to prevent calcification and corrosion.
the temp needle is always nominal, not really worried about critical issues there
it probably does need a coolant refresh, I'm getting the oil done this weekend so we'll see what that costs
i'm getting really bad about checking my oil level. the rate at which it burns off is very random. sometimes it needs a quart after two weeks, sometimes a month goes by and it's burned nothing
can't figure out the rhymes and reasons

Rotary engines and oil burning?
Just start running it on 100:1 two stroke mix. Put in some extra hot spark plugs to help prevent plug fouling.
Neato one-off Ford Fusion with composite materials and various other mass-reduction techniques produced by Ford as part of a study. Not ready for or even considered for mass production, but how far away are we from a major manufacturer deciding to implement carbon fiber in all of their models?
The major impediment to CF adoption has always been cost, but if, say, Ford decided to do this in a couple years and extended it across their range, would it not lead to all the companies implementing CF in the name of fuel economy?
i would guess at least another decade, possibly more because no matter how cheap CF gets, they'll never fix the thing where if you hit a fire hydrant your bumper shatters into 50 pieces... so replacement and repair is ever an issue

Kevlar weave inclusion helps, and Koenigsegg do that thing with the titanium mesh woven into the carbon matting too.
Yeah, CF is pretty close to mainstream on this stuff. You now see skis, bicycles and other stuff regularly made with it for cheap. The main thing for carmakers is getting the plants up and running, as most of the CF plants are in China.

That shit happens now with the plastic bumpers we have. Nobody repairs those things.
The entire front end of my focus is plastic. I could take a running start and kick myself in to 6k worth of damage to it.
You'd be surprised. There are underlying support structures in there designed to protect pedestrians from the engine and steel subframe and radiator support.
BMW have talked up adding more and more CF through their range. The i3 and i8 are already mostly there, so to make things more economical they're going to want to ramp that up as much as possible.
i would like it if BMW redid the Z4 in time for me to buy one
I'm doing a lot of soul searching on if I want to keep my RX-8 for life, or upgrade to luxury next year.. just not that much appealing to me in a reasonable price range
Thinking 50-70k range... most of the Mercs I want are unreachable, not that interested in Porsche, all BMW's in that price bracket just seem so plain

The CTS-V is the only American luxury car I would consider buying. But that's at the top of my price range, and I'd have to actually drive one to even begin thinking about it.

If you take the fancy seats off you save $3400.

That price range opens you up to a huge amount of used vehicles. There are a ton of nice AMG Mercs in there, Ferraris from a decade+ ago, lots of high end Audis, probably some used GT-Rs, Lotuses, Rolls, Bentleys. $50-$70k is an autos enthusiasts playground no matter what type of car you want.

Yeah, they start at $29,995 here in the USA. You can get a performance optioned version for right around $36k. Australian prices for foreign cars are so crazy.

I know there's lots of amazing used cars in the 50k bracket, but I am wanting to do a lease next year for reasons. So if I swap, it will be new only. Which may exclude the 4c because I'm not sure they'd lease one of those puppies.
If not, I would wait an extra year for used and then I would go to the auction yards. I have a relative with a dealer license and some of the deals at auction are just ridiculous.

$70,000+ on road!
10 points to Gryffindor!
A base model 911 is $231,000.
There is a guy in Colorado who assembles 'utes and I'm real tempted to pick one up next time I'm in the market for a car.
