My computer is making weird noises! (followed by crash)

Alright, so after using my computer for a while (anywhere from an hour to a day), I'll suddenly hear faint noises when I do things on the PC. For instance, any time I minimize or restore a window, I'll hear a small "beep" from the speakers. When I move the windows, there's a rumbling sound as I slide them across the screen.
Not a big deal, just kind of annoying, but whenever this starts, my system usually locks up within an hour or two of it starting.
My question is... I don't have any idea where to start looking for the problem. Every window does it, wether that be Firefox, AIM, an LotRO/WoW/EQ2 window, Word... anything. I just don't know where to start looking right now!
